Over the weekend, the M3 Ring Taxi was part of an 8 car pile up on the ring. Luckily no one died although there is one person hospitalized.

I guess the warnings were too close to the accident site? If you see the track, there is a blind turn and the accident is in a low lying area. You can't see crap with the armco and trees. I think that accident was pretty light considering how fast that taxi goes...probably over 100mph for most of the track.

The accident was caused by a driver who came into the "Bergwerk" section at too high a speed. The driver slammed on his brakes, slid, and crashed into the car in front of him. His car then continued to hit two other cars also in the area. Three cars trailing this scene managed to slow down in time to avoid the accident, but the BMW M3 Ring Taxi could not unfortunately. It crashed into one of the slowing cars in front of it and then crashed into the pile of cars in front.

The pile up resulted in over 100,000 euro total damage.

Thanks for sharing... I was there, waiting outside for the track to clear. I knew it was bad when I saw a helicopter coming in for the evac, but didn't know the details.
I hope the driver is ok.

It is pretty mind blowing that they don't require huge signs in multiple places around the track during construction, especially like at the starting line(s). Maybe even those big digital ones like many freeways have. And it should have huge blinking red lights and such.

Lucky no one was killed.

I think lights would be a good idea but they were pretty good about managing traffic, at least when I was there. I think this is a case where someone may have screwed up? If the road hazard just happened maybe there was not enough time to get warning signs out far enough.

If you look at the terrain, you wouldn't be able to see anything coming around that bend. The road slopes down and the armco pretty much kills looking ahead. Think of a race track built entirely in a tunnel.

That picture makes me sad! All of those beautiful cars wrecked..

Looks like the E36 M3 took the worst hit...

Looks like the Ring Taxi was braking hard if you look at the length of the skid marks.

Thankfully everyone is OK!

I've been there three times, and I am surprised this doesn't happen more often. It's a trstament to the overall driving skill of most people who drive the ring that it doesn't. If that was in the states, there'd be dead bodies everywhere.

Accidents like this might hurt future ring taxi rides too bad, however, as some one said it is a miracle no one sustained fatal inures at the average speed around the track of 100 MPH ++ Wishing the fellow in the hospital a speedy recovery.

I've driven around the ring, goes to show you that you have to be on guard 100 % all the time still there are moments when your life is in someone else's hands ... so be on guard should you ever make your way around the ring.

Wow, Bergwerk where Lauda had his accident in 1976! I remember that area when I was at the ring in 2007 doing an M3 program.

If it was an open track like the 'ring, I have to agree.
