Haha walk away from this conversation, you're clearly just trying to troll. I'll indulge you for a quick second though. I think 'fun' is more subjective than relative (at least in the context I intended it for), but that's beside the point. By me saying "you're not having fun", I was playfully poking fun at those who are achieving such high mileages.....because in order to achieve such high mileages, you're clearly not getting the car anywhere near redline or even driving spiritedly.'

If your definition of fun is just cruising down some backroads in 5th gear and taking it all in, by all means! That sounds great, and I do love those kinds of drives! But you certainly are missing out on what your car is capable of! I understand that you are by no means a granny, as you have racing experience, so I really don't understand why you are trying to instigate an argument just for the sake of it. You understood what I was saying, yet you still wanted to push and poke.

Are you a cop? Because that would certainly explain your attitude to my comment. You need to relax and take a step back and stop trying to call me out as if I were a teenager and this were my first car.

I don't get tickets because I don't drive like an asshat. And I certainly don't complain about cops (why would I?). You seem to have some kind of complex.

FWIW, just filled up (91 ethanol free) and onboard displayed 387 miles (range) which is now 380. The 20.6 mpg is the avg over the last 1300 miles mostly highway driving (55-85 mph) with some 100 miles being town/city with a number of 8k+ redline shifts.

Troll? Not hardly. You claim playfulness, but you made the quip on multiple occasions. Water under the bridge I suppose. I already offered my perspective regarding how the car is driven "on the street". There really is no point to driving the car "near redline" during daily driving. Feel free to disagree! No, I'm not missing out on what my car is capable of (...I have participated in HPDE's and various driving schools in M3's, but as mentioned previously I prefer spending my track time on two wheeled machines). When appropriate and/or when on a desolate back road, I'll play around. On the street and during a commute? What for? My profession has nothing to do with my attitude as I haven't been the "driving faster than what is necessary on surface streets" type since I piddled around in modified Honda Civics in my mid/late teens/early twenties prior to the onset of the F&F generation. I just find it a tad humorous that people feel like they have to drive at 10/10th's (...yes, I'm being a bit dramatic) to enjoy this vehicle, and that anything less results in an unsatisfying driving experience. If that's the case, I guess the guys driving around fast Porsches and Ferrari's within normal speed limits on surface streets really aren't getting their hundreds of thousands worth out of their vehicles. Keep it safe out there!

2009 E90 M3 DCT 35k miles

I went down 12 hrs to Charleston, SC to pick up the car and drove it back to Philly. Driving in Auto S3 mode, I broke the 400 mark once and filled up an almost empty tank at 403 miles. This was on full cruise doing 75-77 mph.

Since then I consistently average 14-14.5 mpg in city (225-230 miles) driving and around 21-23 mpg on my DC trips from Philly. Also switched to S4 mode now

I just filled up at 308 miles, but the tank was very empty. I put in 16.462 gallons for 18.71 MPG, which is also above average.

315 miles over 15/16 gallons is only approx 20mpg. Do you cruise at 65mph with zero traffic?

it ranges, 20-23mpg and 300-330 miles/tank.

no traffic for me, luckly my commute to and from work is always against traffic. I'll typically cruise at about 70. I also use my Auto Start-Stop.

My first fill-up, 200 total miles, 191 from me, 14 mpg.

I would be lying if I didn't say that keeping it under 5.5k rpm has been easy.

Thats impossible! just be serious. I never do highway, just city and light comes on around 200 miles.
No it's not. I averaged 330-350 miles a tank in both of my E9X M3's on a regular basis (..mixed driving, and that included the occasional spirited romp through back streets ). I'm getting about 420-440 miles per tank in my X5. It's all about driving style.

I just took a long car ride. Usually I travel local roads. Got about 260 miles on a full tank traveling 70-75 mph with occasional ventures to 80+. Of course I could I have squeezed another 40 miles but thought it was time to fill up. Calculated mileage of 20 mpg. Not bad. Car was with 2 adults and one toddler with luggage. This is one car I would own even if I had a billion dollars in the bank.
