He lifted and got on the brakes when he should have stayed in it as he could have driven out of the initial slide.Almost nice air though

my thoughts also. looks avoidable to me but hard to say without being behind the wheel. looks like he took a really bad line out of 2 then tried to stay ahead of the m3 instead of allowing a pass.

tore off the fog light on one side and bent the front drivers wheel. had grass and brush all over the hood. catching air a few times probably wasnt too good on the supsension either.

that looked a bit crazy...and yes off-throttle oversteer is a scary thing, but avoidable...

Couple of observations. First, he trail braked into a long sweeper. His open diff didn't punish him.

He missed the apex where the trail car seemed to hit it.

Ran out of teach and dropped 2 wheels and pulled it right back on. Then never even tried to correct with steering until he climbed the mountain. DSC would not have save him.

...at least that's my theory.

Gray 335i for sale anyone?

Wow, never seen that happen at PR before.

The guy is seriously lucky he did not flip his car. With all things considered, he did a good job not over correcting too much and keeping it as straight as possible even if it meant going in the bushes up the hill.

I've never driven a 335i, but the one time I drove a 135i I found that the turbo came on with a bang when you got on the throttle in a corner. I went half-way around a couple of times on an auto-x style course. The M3 is so controllable while the 335i is more of a blunt instrument, like a Porsche Turbo would be without four-wheel drive.

My theory is that he just plain missed the apex, so he hung on, feathered the throttle and just kept the car aimed at the exit. If he'd just kept doing that, he'd have been fine. However, once he figured he had it under control, he got on with the job of driving and gave the throttle a push. When the turbo kicked in, he got weight transfer to the rear, killing his front grip. The power just bulldozed the car off the track to the outside. To keep from going all the way off to the outside, he lifted off the throttle and his newly restored front grip launched him across the track to the inside, whereupon he just kept steering until he could stop.

As others have said, I think he did a good job of keeping it under control and not putting it on its roof.

Sorry I forgot to mention this was a 335xi also which makes this a little harder to understand.

It should be better at offroading then

Not that hard to understand as he missed the apex to go wide and tried to pinch it to stay on track and lifted which caused the back end to come around and getting on the brakes only caused more rotation. At least he stayed straight when he went Rallycrossing! The one thing that I hammer at my students is to not yank the car back on the track when you get 2 wheels off but to drive it out on the rough till you are under control to be able to get back on the hard surface under full control as to not endanger themselves or others around them.I have seen too many incidents in both lapping or racing of people that do not take note of this.

That is scary. He had a totally wrong line through T2.

I once put two wheels off at the track out of T2.. Loosing traction on those 2 wheels compared the others, and the consequent pull is really scary. If you put 2 wheels off the track, even for a micro second, don't try to get back in track.

There definitely was a puff of dirt when he tracked out...or over-tracked out. Here is a fine example of missing the apex and going off straight...skip to about :56

thankfully i have never dropped 2 only 1. resulted in bent rim for me. i once blew straight through at 8 as well into the dirt with no incident as my brakes partially failed. lots of fade.

I wonder if stability control was still on. You put the car that sideways on two different surfaces and it'll start braking individual wheels and make things worse.
