All related to your battery dis-charge.
BMW batteries get weaker and weaker every time they drain and get recharged.Get your battery replaced and clear the codes and you are good to go. Good Luck ! |

Things have now turned sinister ..
4BE3 Message (transmission data, 0xBA) 4BE8 Message (transmission data, 0x1A2) 4DF3 Message (torque transmisson, 0xB5) Although this is clearly pointing towards the box .. does anyone have an expanded definition of the codes ? |

Change the battery.
Low battery voltage can cause tons of sporadic faults in many different control units. After battery replcement, ensure that a batter reset is performed so the IBS system adjusts it's monitoring values. Make sure you have atleast 12.2V with the car off (preferably 12.5), and > 13.9 with engine started. Then clear all the faults and you should be good to go.

Service Bulletin CF33
Quote:
I later found out about a service bulletin - SI B24 10 07 (do a web search). It is a software issue. Here is the excerpt from the bulletin: SUBJECT The Transmission is in "Failsafe" mode with EGS Fault CF33 Stored MODEL E70 from SOP to 8/2007 E60, E61 produced 2/2007 to 8/2007 E90, E91, E92, E93 produced from 8/2006 to 8/2007 All with either the ZF 6HP19TU or 6HP26TU automatic transmissions SITUATION After control module replacement, complete vehicle reprogramming, or after clearing DME adaptation values, the transmission is in "failsafe" mode with fault code CF33 (No message from engine management stored in the EGS module). The fault entry cannot be cleared. CAUSE EGS software application CORRECTION Do not replace any parts. Using DIS 49.0 and higher run a "Short test" and Perform the following test module: Reset learning functions / S2460_GSLFR_TU - available using the following diagnostic path: Service Functions / Transmission Control / Calibrations / Reset leaning functions Afterwards turn the ignition off / lock vehicle / let vehicle enter sleep mode It is now possible to clear the fault. This problem is planned to be corrected with August 2007 and later production vehicles equipped with these ZF transmissions. ------------ You can also use a tool like Bavarian technic, which I did. Just make sure that you give the vehicle enough time so that it goes to "sleep mode" before attempting to clear the code. It worked for me. Otherwise, I'd have taken it to the dealer and pay them to fix a problem that should not have been there in the first place. Good luck. |
