Thats it....we need a video of M3 vs C5 Z06....5 or 6 runs to confirm the results...!

On a sidenote, does anyone think that a M3 with DCT(auto) will outperform a M3 6spd (with a good driver)? Any thoughts?

c5 z06 i'd assume would edge out in the beginning. I don't recall the gearing of each car, but top speed could tell us something depending on the length of the race. :P

I'm thinking you should have gotten a different car, if your are worried about drag racing a vette.

Talk to the 335i boys, all they are worried about is straight line performance.

You know what's sad about this comment. The C5 Z06 outhandles the M3, there's almost no doubt in my mind as to that statement. It weighs 3130 pounds maybe? Yes it has your oldschool leaf springs, but runs on SLA double wishbone suspension. You're playing to the ignorant misconception that American cars, vettes cannot handle when these inferior american companies wrote the rules on much of modern suspension. This includes your SLA, double wishbone suspension and even your prizes LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIALS (STUDEBAKERS) And do not be surprised when your prized foreign cars such as the italian 599, or even german audi start using american conceptualized magnetic ride suspensions.

Well damn, if you run up against a supercharged vette you're askign to get destroyed. You realize supercharged vettes/ procharger etc put out easily 600+ to the wheels?

BMW-videos.com, let me correct you before anybody follows you, I wrote, "In the ATL I always had SC'd vette's RUN UP ON ME in My E46 M3 when i was nearly stock".

I do not roll around looking for any hwy drama. especially when i know i was near stock. when i get back to the US things will be different bc now i will be AA SC'd among other performance upgrades installed

but still, they find and mess with me not the other way around.

understand?
I respect the vette. sc'd/tc'd or not but these particular vettes were new and heavily modded. i knew i was not ready for them. i will see them again though ;-)

Vette Defender too

I agree, being both a Vette C5 and a M3 owner, my 2008 M3 will easily out run my 2003 C5. But with that being said we were talking about a C5 ZO6, there is clearly a big difference between the C5 and the C5 ZO6. I believe my M3 could run pretty close to the ZO6, but coming accross the finish line in second. Don't take me wrong on this, the M3 is one bad ass car, but still is not speed, torque wise as bad as the Z06 C5 and certainly NO MATCH for the ZO6 C6 that is made today. I enjoy both my Vette and M3 and would not trade either for any other car!

All that said, the C5 Z06 was a very edgy car, sharing more in driving spirit with the original M3 than with the current E90/E92 model. It's also considered to be about as quick as the current 436 HP Z51 Vette, with low to mid twelve second quarter miles the norm, at about 116 mph. Anecdotally, I personally watched a friend of mine pilot his stock (except for aftermarket shifter) 405 HP C5 Z06 to an 11.99 second ET at just under 117 mph. Of course, that was a record as far as I know, and is not to be considered the norm.

OK, finally getting exactly on point, your M3 would have acquitted itself well against that C5, but he would pull on you slowly but surely. On a road course, he'd also post slightly better times, assuming equal driver skill. At the 'Ring, the C5 Z 06 went a 7:56, which is close to what the current Z51 car should do.

Did a pull next to a C5 Z06 on the highway coming into town today. He pulled away at first but I slowly reeled him in. We started at about 80mph.

I think that the Z would have won... in fact I know.

2008 BMW M3: 0-60mph 4.4 Seconds 1/4mi 12.9 Seconds

Curb Weight: 3726lbs
HP: 414
TQ: 295

2004 Corvette zO6:
0-60mph 4.1 Seconds 1/4mi 12.5 Seconds

Curb Weight: 3116lbs
HP: 405
TQ: 400

The Corvette has the advantage in all the right places, there is no doubt in my mind that the ZO6 would take the cake with the same driver.

-The Corvette weighs 610lbs LESS
-The Corvette is rated at 105 ft/lbs MORE torque than the M3...

This argument is lose-lose. If the Corvette is faster, then people will harp on it for being made by an American carmaker, and say that it will most certainly break down in the near future. If the M3 is faster, than the Corvette is a POS anyway.

What's the point ... ?

Good point. However whoever would say that the Corvette would break down faster would be an idiot. Those cars can take a hell of a beating and with just regular maintenance which isn't much these cars can be blown, cammed... whatever and still run tip top 150k+ seen it many times. It may rattle, but who cares.
