Oil cooler differences

I'm not sure if it is just my imagination or if the material is different now. I have seen pictures of the 2010's and they seem to have quite a larger oil cooler in the lower vent.

Can someone confirm this or let me know to be checked in at the closest optometrist. I'm trying to find some pictures. I have one on my background of the frozen gray at its reveal and I can't find the file.

***Found some pics! Obviously the blue is the 2010, and look at the bottom grill. See the fins for the cooling system.

Now the 2008-09 OIL cooler which is in that location, it is much smaller and almost unnoticeable in these models, as illustrated in the last photo. Also attatched is the photo of the oil cooler for the 08-09.

Any thoughts?

You're correct for the 335i but not the M3. The radiator in that passenger side duct is the M3 transmission oil cooler (on both the 6MT and DCT) and the 335i engine oil cooler.

The M3 engine oil cooler lies almost flat across the bottom of the center intake opening and it vents straight down under the car.

It's possible that what we see in the OP post photo is the transmission cooler for a ZCP M-DCT transmission. The engine hasn't had a problem with heat but the DCT gearbox has.

Guys, the 2010's have the same oil cooler as the 08's and 09's. The only difference is that the 2008-2009's were painted black while the new 2010 one is not. It is silver.

I perfer the black look IMO since its not a intercooler. A friend wrecked his car and had to had the oil cooler replaced. They ended up painting it black since it only comes in silver now.

I think only the DCT has an oil cooler (not the manual tranny too).

The 6MT manual gearbox has a thermostat that controls an electric oil pump that feeds a transmission oil cooler. The gearbox cooler is the same BMW part number as the early 335i engine oil cooler.

All M3s have a tranny cooler, oil cooler, and power steering cooler. And all are the same and at the same locations. And yes, the oil cooler on my '08 is identical to the '10 but in black, as noted. I installed a fiberglass screen in front of all of them (took bumper off) to protect them from stones and bugs. Good day.

I 'm confused as hell with all those Coolers.

Can someone explain me in a clear manner ??

What cooler is the one we can see through the front bumper of the Monte carlo blue M3 in the Original post ??

What cooler is that one at the left of the Main Radiator ???

What is that thing ?? ESS Supercharger Heat Exchanger For Water to air intercooling ??
In this case , where is the cooler we can see in the first pic of this thread ??

May a brave soul explain me, I pretty hate to be confused. Thanks so much.

The radiator core to the left of the large engine radiator (in that photo) is the transmission oil cooler.

The radiator core in the lower bumper of the Monte Carlo Blue M3 is the engine oil cooler.

Correct, the radiator core in the last photo is indeed the water-to-air intercooler core for the ESS Stg. II supercharger system.

Where is the radiator core in the first pic? Behind the intercooler core...

Thanks Le Mans.

The exact question was :Where is the Engine Oil Cooler in the ESS pic. The ESS HEat exchanger and the BMW Oil Cooler seem to be at the same place.I don't see any Oil Cooler in the ESS pic.

And two more questions.

In this thread somebody stated that M3's have a Steering oil cooler . Where is it located ??

I don't think M3's have a Differential Oil Cooler. Is it possible to install one (For track)??

I think the fins on the diff cover helps to keep temp low, but it isn't a real diif oil cooler .

Here is a pic of a real diff oil cooler mounted in the spare tire tank.
