Moonroof rattle
I'm in the market for a E92 M3, possibly going to order it new. I know it's been discussed and re-discussed to death, the issue of moonroof v. CF roof.
My question is whether, after a year or so of use, anyone has had an issue with the moonroof--rattles, leaks, etc.? I'm trying to decide which route to go. I currently have a moonroof in my car, which I use roughly 10% of the time.... but I like the option of being able to use it if I choose to. Thanks everyone! |

two different questions. I'll answer the latter. while I currently have the carbon fiber roof, I previously had a 335 coupe with a moonroof, and there were no such rattles at all after 2+ years. it was rock solid. the former question is personal preference, and I'm not going down that rabbit hole.

I have a moon roof on an 08' e92. No rattles or leaks and works quite nicely.

I had an '09 E92 M3 for almost 3 years and now have an '11 E92 M3 going on 16 months - both with sunroofs opened daily year round (Southern living...) - and have experienced no issues whatsoever. Good luck.

Hey Lawrence,
On my previous bmw I had a sunroof, so when I got my M, I naturally got another thinking I would use it just as much. I can say a year down the road I am already regretting that decision. I would make sure you like the look just as much as the functionality. If you plan on modding your car at all, I would stay stick with CF, as honestly now I don't think the sunroof's aesthetic is as great as the CF. Totally just a worthless opinion though, so don't mind me btw, one year in and no moonroof rattle. |

I'm not sure which route I'll go, and I've been wrestling with this decision, but I guess it's a nice problem to have. I've heard stories of leaks and rattles, though, so I just wanted to check if anyone here has had those problems. |

2008 M3, 60k miles, no issues with the moonroof, will pick up the BMW lube kit for the moonroof as maintenance precaution.

Guess I'm the only one with an issue then
I have had a rattle/squeak almost since day 1. It's only when it's open, so above 30-50km/hr the wind noise drowns it out. So I live with it. Dealer was unable to do anything about it unless they opened up the headliner. Considering they are pretty incompetent over here, I passed on that offer. |

E92 M3 you must get the carbon roof. I had one with moonroof and highly regretted it. |
