Long shall stand the beauty of the E9X generation of M's. Its a freeze frame of time, its the model that stands right between the old school of design and the new direction bmw intends on heading.

Its an iconic M3, and shares such a timeless design like the E46. Let me tell you, when a crisp, mint condition E46 M3 pulls up next to me my jaw still drops. Its a damn handsome car, especially the white coupe version of the E46 M3.

I dont believe so at all. I'm still totally loving clean e46's. I'm sure the e9x series will follow suit.

I am still in love with the design of my E46 M3. I'm not sure I will love the design of my new ride as much as the E46. For me-the E46 M3 is the best of BMW design. Not one design flaw in my eyes.

Dated? Not in the least. I just wish it was a bit more aggressive. Wider wheel arches, bigger sculpted air ducts would of done the trick.

I miss my e46, might pick an AW vert up at the end if year. Im not feeling the current look BMW is aiming for, all models looks the sane from the front.

No exclusivity at all

I tend to buy cars at the end of model runs since thats when all the bugs are worked out and that's when the OEM offers the most options/choices/special packages, etc. As such, the e9x M3 to me looks quite fresh. Also, BMW's tend not to look dated so quickly. I still think the E46 M3 is a nice looking car as is the E39 M5.

I think we can all agree the E46 looks great but to say that it's not dated is a bit of a stretch. That car was first conceptualized in the late 90s.

I agree... you can separate looking really good with looking like an older vehicle. The e46 is still beautiful, no doubt, but it also no longer looks like a new model car (i.e. dated). Looking dated does not mean it can't still look great (which it does).

I appreciate the question, but my answer is no. It's nice to see a car with curves in a time that's moving toward edges ala the R8.

Good thread.

Well said.

It is pretty much right in the middle in design, a totally new look from the e46 and the next gen. Ms are taking cues from the e92. The e9x style will be a timeless one.

Something like that. I think they went just a tad bit overboard. They need to take a page out of AMG's book in design. Those cars have a presence on the road. Some like the sleeper look, though. I like my sporty car to look aggressive.

yeah, its the pillar in between "staying religious to tradition" and "future trends/styling". I still feel however, that the difference in pre-lci and lci models were a bit much, and really makes the older gen E9X's look more dull than it should be (in terms of the E90 more so than the E92). For the trained eye, the difference between the E90s are large when we look at how the e46 evolved into the lci e46.

E46 is forever a timeless design, showing off its muscles. The E9X generation is an iconic design, pushed by its athlete stance and proportions.

This is the angle I'm most concerned with and the one that incites thoughts of dateness. (random used car photo - not mine)

This doesn't look dated to you?

I think LCI taillights make a big difference. I also think the comp CF spoiler helps. Perhaps its just pre-LCI that looks dated now. Regardless, it's the back half of the car that i am most over with.

Maybe it's time for some mods? ACS roof spoiler, Comp CF rear deck spoiler, rear diffuser, Meistershaft exhaust, some new wheels, and see if a body shop will flare out the rear fenders a bit. How's that sound?

I can see what you are saying about the e9x starting to look dated although, I feel like it was just yesterday that I was seeing the e92 M3 Concept on the cover and Car and Driver and now, we are already looking at the next M3. Where has the time gone.... I am anxious to see the new M3 but I am not anxious to have my car be "the old model". I am kinda glad it will still be at least 2 or 3 more years before my car is out of date.

I wonder if the F30 M3 will be priced similarly or if the price will go even higher. How much higher could BMW afford to price it before a large part of their customer base will be priced out of the market.

Of course new technology, a new model, and more power is always cool but I wonder how well my E92 M3 will be able to hold my attention once all that "new" is out. Will the S65 be something that I still wont be able to let go of...

Sorry for rambling on a tangent.
