A worn PS2 has less tread squirm but also less grip because the compound has been aging and cycling since new. If you shaved the tire down to 2/32, you might find more grip and better handling due to lower weight/tread, but a tire that has sat in the sun and that has been heat cycled 1,000 times has less traction than new rubber.

I always found that when my tread got low tires always felt a bit greasier and less connected to the road. After breaking in new tires I feel I have maximum grip or close to it. I just find it odd that people with extremely low tread think the tires are close to better-handling slicks than they were with more tread.

People do have brand new tires shaved down for better grip.


And these Vreds are starting to grip much better after 400-500 miles. They were a bit greasy during the break-in.

Yep. As others have said, they feel as capable as PS2s on the street. Should not be any big suprises pushing them a little harder.

One thing you can say is that they have a higher treadwear rating (280 vs. 220), so all things being equal, you can expect to get more miles out of them than PS2s. And, they are both UHP summer tires. However, they are both significantly lower than HP A/S tires with treadwear ratings in the 400s.

They do look like a wonderful tire. I would just hate to need a new tire in the middle of nowhere and have to go with another tire.

You're in pretty much the same boat no matter what brand of tire that you choose as most tire dealers do not stock the M3 sizes. It is at least a 1-2 day wait....unless you go to a BMW dealer.

I'm looking to get some of these tires on my E92 335i.
Not many people are running these over at E90post so I thought I'd ask here. (Here's my thread for reference)

The wheel sizes would be 19x8.5 in the front and 19x9.5 in the rear.

What tire width should I be running for those wheel sizes?
I don't want any tire stretch and minimal bulge.

I was thinking 245/35R19 for the fronts and 275/30R19 for the rears, but others suggested 235/265.

I have read mixed things regarding the width of these tires; some say they run wide, while others say they run narrow.
Through a google search, I found over at MY350Z.COM's forums that people are running 265's on 19x8.5's so that's got me even more confused.

Any help would be great!

I see that you're also very experienced with the E92 335i (your wife's car I think I read).

Given your experience with both the Vred's and the 335i (I will be putting these wheels/tires on my E92 335i with stock sport suspension), do you think I would be better off with 235(f)/265(r)'s or 245(f)/275(r)'s for my 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 wheels?

The way the 335 understeers with OE Sport suspension, I would go with 245/275

What if I were to lower the car with a moderate drop? Nothing overly aggressive, most likely H&R Sport Springs if your familiar with them.
(I know its dependent on a lot of different variables, but what do you think?)

These sizes/setup has room galore on an M3, I have no experience with 335! M3's can upsize 3 sizes with no rubbing to include lowering springs/coil-overs.

The question you should ask yourself is? Can my rims handle a 275 width tire?

Is my rims offset suitable for this increase in width to avoid rubbing on suspension or body components?

I thought that the Vreds don't come out in 265... thus the 275 choice (versus the 265 stock in the M3s)

Guys, if there are more people that have used these tyres please speak up and provide your feedback. I would be very interested to hear opinions as I might go the Vred way. My stock PS2s will need replacement soon...

What about running 255/35-19s up front instead of the 245/35s? Will it still fit on the 8.5" wide rim?

If you are refering to my post, I plan on putting these on my E92 335i, not an M3. Sorry for the confusion. I only posted here because not many people are running these tires at E90post.

A 255 up front of the 335i, I would assume, will not work. I have been told running 235 f and 265 r is the "safe" way to go. It's been tried, tested, and proven to work.

The reason I'm asking for help is due to the lack of information on these specific tires. From what I have read, the side walls are fairly round. This sparked the idea that I might be able to run a slightly wider tire - 245f/275r.

Unfortunately, I have not found a solid answer...

I need replacement tires soon and interested in the Vred's as well. Im just curious on what people do if they get a flat and dont have a local Vred dealer in the area? Im assuming the advantage going w/ Michelin or other common brands is that you could source a replacement tire in a major metro area quickly vs. waiting day(s) for a replacement Vred to ship??? Interested to know if anyone has had an unexpected issue with these and needed quick replacement?
