Anyway, on reflection, I'm not too bothered about it. If I need Assist, it's right there on my phone, and if I need google send to car, I use the iphones standard google map app.

I'd be hard-pressed to lose Google's send-to-car functionality. I use that at least once a week...

Crap -- I really want the updated iDrive software too.

if kscarrol has the combox, can't he just get the connected apps coded in via bimmertech or any other coder that has the ability to do so..

from what you (technic) posted in your other thread regarding other thread about bimmertech and connected apps, all one with combox equipped vehicles (pre or post MY3/11) would need is an enabling code and coding features...am I incorrect or only MY3/11+ vehicles can get connected apps via coding...)

Any Combox-equipped iDrive can be coded for 6NR. The new condition is that if the software version is 43-on then FSC are required.

BimmerTech can provide those now.

stega,

Out of curiosity, what does having assist have to do with x-cross or tracking the car?

Technic,

Have you heard of anyone successfully getting their Assist account transferred after performing this retrofit?

Smile Installing Combox in a 2009 335i convertible

Hello everyone. I am new in this forum and I must say it is a very helpful forum for a weekend geek like me wanting to mod my newly acquired 2009 335i convertible.

Couple of questions/clarifications:
1. Where to buy the Combox telematics?
2. Who can assist in the coding needed?

Thanks in advance.

Absoultely. The most bus is a loop which will be broken if connections arent terminated. I imagine you could also delete the connection at the distribution block as long as you can isolate it.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I will be replacing the MULF & TCU with the Combox Media (telematics isn't available in my country, that's why i'll go for the Media version). Will i be needing just 1 fiber termination connector with this operation?

Also, can someone please post the part no. for that round fiber termination connector? i can't find it anywhere ...

You will need coding and FSC. We can provide both; please contact BimmerTech for details.

Hello.
I have 09 e90 with CIC. I was looking in to getting the combox 6NR retrofitted... I was told I would lose BMW assist.

So there is a way to retain all the BMW assist function with the retrofit? How can one transfer their BMW assist account over to the new combox?

Thank you

Thank you

Hi Technic,

Sorry to dig up an old thread but do you have any guidance on how to remove all the interior carpeting and trims to get to the TCU? Was everything done in the truck or did you have to remove the rear seats from the interior?

Thanks,

Alex

You can get with a vendor like Bimmertech which is pretty expensive, or you can source a combox and retrofit cables yourself and just have some one remote code everything if you aren't able to do it yourself. Lots of great threads on here about combox retrofit diy.

What to do?

Enter BimmerTech with its PnP Combox OEM swap kit...

- unplug and remove TCU and MULF OEM modules (E93 shown):

- plug and install OEM Combox Telematics to existing OEM connectors, antennas and cables, terminate extra MOST connection:

100% OEM, no wires cut or spliced. No faults, 100% reversible back to factory spec.

BMW Apps, the enhanced iPod/USB adapter (Album Art and iPod Out) and dual-channel Bluetooth are upgraded and functional, and then some:

- BMW Online:

BMW Live:

Panoramio:

Not shown: Google Maps Street View and Local Search

Notes:

1) First issue first: Assist account was not transferred to the Combox. That should be done by the customer and the dealer by following the OEM procedure of registering the Combox IMEI (replacing the TCU IMEI in the account) with Assist. Will update the thread with the outcome.

2) MyInfo will not work with BMW Live: Adding BMW Live will replace the Assist entries from the iDrive and thus MyInfo, however the Telematics portion of the Combox still is active and functional. Once the Assist account is transferred the SOS button in the roof console will be active and functional, however that will be the only way to contact Assist if BMW Live is activated. All Assist basic services will be active and functional once the account is transferred.

Customer was very happy. Work done.

Technic, been trying to get ahold of you for a while now through your website to purchase harness but no response to emails. Are you still round?
