BMWhat App vs BTech

BMWhat website is poor and I am not getting a full understanding of this system. Is this an OBD tool? Is it a competitor to the Bavarian Technic tool? If so, what is the preference for M3?

BMWhat has been really good on Android for me. Haven't tried IOS. Can code, diag and read-out parameters. From what I recall of the Bav tool - it's similar, though MUCH cheaper. With Android you can use a regular OBD-USB cable with the appropriate adapter cable if you happen to already have one. If not IOS and Android both work with Bluetooth ones. Their support has been phenomenal and response very quick to any questions I sent their way. Big recommend.

The elm327 will work with bmwhat but is limited. There is a free version for testing compatibility.

For full compatibility, you must purchase their adaptor (about 30$ from amazon)

Do you have a link to their adapter on amazon?

BMWhat has super support. My 2013 M3 engine protocol was not recognized by the app.
I sent my engine protocol (menu within the app) and emailed to Parvis @ BMWhat and after 3 days they sent me a test version that worked nicely.
My car was involved in accident and I was able to delete all errors w/o a problem (and they didn't come back). I can even code the brake lights etc though I haven't tried that yet. I use the BMWhat BT adapter which I bought on Amazon.

I'm using the elm327 with the app and I seem to have full functionality.

I had the ability to code some modules but not all. I believe it was when I tried to code the seat belt chime I had a message saying it can't be done with my current obd adapter. Perhaps that's changed with updates..!

The parameters wasn't available for the s65 until recent. Any success with that and the elm?

I've always had the ability to code 6 of the ECUs with the ELM327, I do see like 3 of the ECUs are grayed out but i'm not sure if that is a compatibility issue or they are just not relevant for my car.

I tried the parameters option briefly but couldn't get it to work.

Not yet but it's on their wishlist. I asked Parvis back in June about removing the Accept screen and he said that it was coming soon. Obviously that hasn't happened yet but if enough people keep bugging him about it maybe it will be available in the next update. I would think that this would be an extremely popular feature.

Here is the link the their FAQ:

Here is the link to their running wishlist. There are separate tabs for English and German.

Has anyone successfully purchased the battery coding addition for the app? My attempts have failed to establish a link to make the purchase. I'm wondering if it is my V Gate dongle.

Looks like a new update for BMWhat just got released. Maybe that has the fix...

Purchased the In-Apps before connecting to the car. It was a snap to register a new battery type after that. Finally, battery drama over after $55 but I am not at the mercy of a coder. I am the coder!

Was anyone able to do new battery registration with an ELM327 Wi-Fi adapter for Iphone for an E92 M3?

I was thinking of getting one of these:

Did you do with their adapter or a generic ELM327?

Any final verdict on the ELM327 and the $50 full version app? Does it have full functionality?

I think the issue is there are so many cheap china "clones" of the ELM on the market. After some research, I'm almost positive I had a clone and thats why i had problems.

A lot of people (most) report they have full functionality.

Any way to tell if I have a clone? I used the iOBD2 app with whatever ELM327 I have on my E46 and it worked.
