waxing question

Hey just wondering if any of you add "additional" layers of wax after washing your car a week or two after detailing it...

For instance, if you did a full detail (clay, polish, wax) and then a couple weeks later wanted to put on an additional layer of wax for protection, how would you go about doing this? Could you just do a thorough wash, then maybe a quick detailer wipedown and wax? What's the safest bet? Or is better to just wait till the wax truly deteriorates and then do a touchup polish and full wax again?

In my case the car is never parked outside, and doesnt get too much in the ways of surface contamination other than regular dust and road grime...

I'd wash the car, QD it and then add the wax. This is assuming the wax has no special prep. requirements.

do the QD after the wax. remember DQ has some slight protection, and that would hinder the wax's bonding

again, your car looked great the other day

I would get a bottle of wax as you dry, and as you chamois dry the car you wipe the wax into the paint. I use it every wash, and then i go over it with a quick detailer (wax spray).

I only wax once a year with a special wax that lasts a year, my cousin imports this wax from Switzerland. Let me know if you would be interested

Yes but how do you go about adding a layer of wax in between full on details?

Good point, just thought QD to clean surface prior to waxing. So I guess just wash / dry / apply

but dont you find after drying you get some water residues and streaking on the surface (unless you have a fancy water purification system, which i don't)?

I'm not using a cleaner wax, but a high concentrated carnuba wax, so will this go onto the surface clean without some surface prep?

For a new car I find it takes a couple coats to get it smooth, so I do an initial coat and then let it bake in the sun for a couple hours and reapply another one. After that, its just a maintenance coat every couple months. I use water droplets as my guide - big dime-sized droplets after a rain = good. Pea-sized (or none at all) = bad.

I use Liquid Glass Polish/wax. Amazing stuff, and i've used it for years on many cars - I've tried all of the other popular types, zymol or whathaveyou, and keep coming back to LG. It stays on for a long time and is very easy to work with. Its a little expensive at $25/tin but give it a try.
