Discovered new safety feature while reversing my car today !!!!!!

As i was entering my parking lot today, i removed the seat belt...then it started beeping as always!
Now i wanted to reverse my car into a spot..so i stopped and then started reversing, hearing the loud seat belt beep sound.
I think i came little close to the car next to my parking spot..so my rear parking senors didnt beep atall and instead the car just switched to Neutral and the engine turned off by itself!!!

I wonder if the bmw safety engineers thought, instead of confusing the driver with two beep sounds lets just cut the gas and turn off the car..

By the way not sure if this safety feature is also in 6mts.

I know that if you leave the car in drive and try to get out it will automatically put it in neutral... or in regular bmws park

That sounds strange. You should test and see if that's really what happened. Get an empty cardboard box (or something else tall and light enough not to damage your bumper) and slowly back toward it with your seatbelt off and see if it happens again.

Post one and two are correct. I back into a very tight garage. The best way is with my head hanging out the window.
Second my horn is so quite that I might as well yell out the window at cars. Thats if I can hit the one inch pads with 20lbs of force.

You can back the car up with the door open IF you have the seatbelt buckled. With the seatbelt unbuckled, if you open the door, it goes into neutral. Unless this is something new, the engine should not shut down.
