No way I was taking my m3 for a drive yesterday. I drove through a foot deep of snow with 2ft snow drifts for a couple of miles in my Subaru. I almost got high centered a couple of times with only my momentum moving me forward.

Not to be a dick but I find it very hard to believe an M3 made it through 17" of snow, especially when the ground clearance is only like 4" or so.

Yah, before I lived in an artic climate I wouldn't have thought it was possible either. A lot of times the fresh powder is dry and almost weightless.

Do you live in South Anchorage. I've seen an alpine white E92 running around every now and then. Yes, we have at least 17ins at this point, you're a wild man driving the M in this stuff!

They sell M3's in Alaska... why? Dude, either move or buy a different car. Wait, can you get a moose in the trunk?

Why on earth did you not take your AWD ???
My ///M only sees the winter road when there is no snow in sight. In the winter time I drive my AWD. The pictures you posted are frightening indeed. Hope you made it home safe and sound ... now for what you did today you deserve this ===> let this be a lesson to you and don't do it again BTW you should share your story here ===> Click to Open Have a better day tomorrow

You'd probably have gotten a little farther if that were true.
For reference, in order of traction in 17" snow:

I use to live in Alaska and recall they never plowed the main roads. Not true here in Maine. They do like every 45 mins because of high traffic. Its the way of life here.

Cheers! I hate life's hard lessons, but I've had a few too. Next time, take the beater... or the polar bear.

I took my car out after the big blast from hurricane sandy. Roads had been plowed once with another light accumilation afterwards, I probably had 2-3 inches of wet compact snow to deal with. I wanted to see how the car dealt with it using my winter wheels (235/255 blizzak lm60s on oem 220m 19s), I was impressed, but was definitely borderline scared of wrecking or someone else plowing into me. I witnessed a lot of stupidity during that short drive, including a suv swerving all over, recovering, and then smashing through somebody's front lawn. Also an old lady holding the accelerator down while on ice until she went sideways into another car. All this on a short 5ish mile round trip to a convenience store.. I gladly drove my awd vehicle for the rest of the storm and wouldn't of considered serious commuting in my m, you're very brave
