Discounts on sedans?

Is there anyone else predicting small discounts on sedans in just a month or two? I went to 4 dealers, and all of them had at least 3 M3 sedans on 111 or 112 status that were not sold. None of them offered a penny off, understandable, but I am wondering if maybe we will see discounts of 500 to 2000 on the sedan any time soon.

I'm thinking the sedans will get hot once the DCT starts to roll out. Until then, they will probably won't sell to fast.

This is an interesting question. It would seem to me that, since dealers have sedans pretty readily available, some dealers would be willing to knock 500-1000 off to lock in a sale. I have posed this question to a few dealers in my area and none seem interested at all. I have my name on a list for a sedan with DCT at MSRP, so I have been taking the last few weeks to see if I can lock in a better deal. I think the thing is, even though sedans are fairly available, they aren't just piling up on lots yet (except for a few demos). I get the feeling dealers think that the word will get out soon enough, and they don't want to lock in sales below MSRP just yet. If production numbers are what they say they will be, you can bet that inventory will start piling up once all us diehard M3 fans get our cars early on.

I can get you a discount Sedan. I know of a dealer that would be glad to knock off $500.

This one on ebay has a Buy it Now a Thousand Off MSRP and a starting bid of $60K with No Reserve. Surprised they listed it with no reserve... that could be a mistake, but it looks like they will sell at a $1K Discount

This ebay dealer lowered their Buy It Now price to $2K UNDER MSRP. If anyone wants a JB Sedan with FR interior, this is a great deal!!!!

Is it me??? Those wheels don't look very polished. The e46 wheels seem to have more shine. What a deal on that car but how will that interior hold up over time?

I actually won this auction. JB and FR werent my first choice, but for 60K I figured I could learn to like it. This was for a loaded car, with everything except the extended leather. Buy it now was 66.8K.

But....the internet manager called all nervous, and said he made a "mistake". I reminded him of his legal obligation to honor the auction, but the dealer refused to honor the price. Guy was a real prick too, talked about how Ebay would "side with him" considering they do million in business.

Anyone have experience dealing with a situation like this? Funny how if I was on the other side of this, they would probably be threatening me with their lawyer and such.

Not interested in pursuing a lawsuit or anything, especially but it sucks they wont honor their price.

EBay absolutely will NOT side with them. Press it with Ebay, you'll win.

If you want the car, I would push, have a lawyer make a call for you, even if it costs you a few hundred for them to make the call, you're still saving 8k+ if \when they cave. There was a court case on this and the seller was compelled by the courts to sell the item for the bid price, it wasn't a cheap item either. You may be able to Google for the case.

Thanks guys, Im going to do what I can. On principal alone, I want to push this as far as I can, but at the same time, dont want to get too worked up over this, since 1) Im gonna get real pissed off, and I want to be happy getting into this car (I have a deposit on a M3 with a local dealer). 2) Any gain I see from legal action will be eaten up by time/expenses (at which point I'd rather get my specd AW/Silver + PP+19)

At a minimum, I hope the pompous a-hole internet sales manager gets canned...If they didnt want this to happen, should have set a reserve. I think they tried to bait bidders at 60K, but found no takers. Also they had all week to change or add to the auction description, but didnt do a damn thing.

Wow dooma350, that sucks. Definitely keep us posted. If the guy wasn't such an ass, and would have worked with you, he'd probably been able to actually make the sale at some compromise price, eh? What a total jerk-off. I would definitely contact the manager and owner of the dealership also.

I'd press forward and make sure you get it for 60k like they asked, who cares if it's a mistake, it's THERE fault.

Like others have said I would press it too... for the simple fact he was a pompous ass about HIS mistake. If he had been apologetic and willing to sell you a special order (the exact one you really wanted) at a fantastic deal instead... or any kind of compromise then it would be different.

I also agree that they had all week to check their auction and make sure it was accurate. I know for a fact they changed their Buy It Now price at least once, so they were in looking at it. I think you are right in that they were trying to bait bidders by purposely not having a reserve, but there wasn't much interest... and now they should pay the price.

Good Luck! Please keep us posted!

the manual trans has dual clutch discs, people often quote it wrong:

6-speed manual transmission with additional oil cooler and heavy-duty dual-disc clutch
