New CTS-V a M5 Killer ??

Thats what the guys at GM are saying ...

http://www.leftlanenews.com/cadillac-cts-v-future.html

Quote:
Spy photographers have snapped another round of photos showing the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V undergoing testing with minimal disguise. The car is expected to use the new "LSA" Corvette motor, developing at least 500 horsepower.

The CTS-V will feature a supercharger integrated into the intake manifold. This is the same setup the upcoming Corvette SS / Blue Devil will have with its LS9 motor. However, while the Corvette SS motor will be hand built at the Performance Build Center in Wixom, MI, the Cadillac's LSA motor will be built in a conventional motor plant.

Automatic and manual transmissions will be available, and an optional paddle shift feature is also anticipated.

Production on the new CTS V-Series will start in September of 2008, and will be limited to about 7000 units annually. Internally, GM is referring to the car as "GMX322 V S/C."

GM's Bob Lutz was recently quoted saying the 2009 CTS-V "will be at a power level only described as unexpectedly high." Then referencing the current BMW M5, Lutz said the CTS-V ?will suck the doors off? the competition if the next M5 isn't significantly better.

After driving a prototype, Lutz said "flat-out incredible. I?ve never driven anything like that.?

In the past, the current CTS-V has suffered from rear-end problems. Specifically, wheel hop. The 2009 CTS-V will feature a completely re-done rear end with a much better rear axle. Sources say this has eliminated the wheel hop issue altogether.

The '09 will continue to utilize a massive set of brembo brakes up front and in back. While the wheels on this prototype are not production spec, the wider tires and larger exhaust pipes certainly are.

Any dumbass car company can beat after they see it. The E60 M5 has been known since 2004 and Cadillac is going to release a car in 2009 to beat it?

Wow! Any car company can do this.....

The real sign of a good car company is their ability to set trends, clearly BMW falls in this category.

you're right, any car company can do this...it's kind of like a company releasing a car that barely beats a car first designed 7 yrs before the new car hit the market and then people on a forum ramble on about how the new car kicks the old car ass and how the old car sucks...sound familiar???

LOL

N E Way ... I think this car is going to be a beast ... est 550hp ... factory supercharged, same engine thats in the new Z1R Vett.

If thats the case you know the aftermarket will easily squeeze another 200hp out of the car.

I know it's not the same thing but I couldn't resist that...

yes, it will be a beast in a straight line but hopefully GM will get the suspension right as well so it's not just a one trick pony....

You wouldn't find a BMW exec saying the M3 will suck the doors off a RS4 (or the similar expression in German).

Forum people are crazy.

That would be cool. Time will tell on what they finally do....

I can't wait for the ZR-1 to hit...I'll trade my current C6 Vette, my E90, and anything else not nailed down to the foundation for that thing....

haha yea...thats true

New cars usually out do their older competitors. BMW released their E60 M5 in 04....its 07 now and caddy makes a cts-v, uhhh ok...so what? Just like the arguements about the E46 m3 vs the NEW 335....well sure, but the M3 dominated the scene back in its day when its performance specs were above the rest or atleast considered top notch.

Yea but you really think the new M3 will "Dominate" the 335i? I sure as hell dont. Especially with the aftermarket potential the 335i has

Are you making the same argument about the 415HP 4l M3 when Audi had the 420HP 4.2l RS4 2 years ago?

If the CTS-V has the rumored 600 HP then yes, I can see it beating the M5 and the upcoming refresh of the M5( if I am reading things right) in a straight line. Handling I will need to see proof of.

Horsepower means nothing if the rest of the car is shit. BMW has always done more with less horsepower than any of its competitors. Even today how many NA I6 or V6 Engines are making more than 104hp per liter like the E46 M3 has been doing since 2001?

The European E36 M3 had a 3.2L I6 making 320hp in the late 90's

BMW has always done things differently and thats why I have been a loyal customer since 2000

The problem is that the Caddy is not as good as a BMW. They have produced a good car, but its nothing for BMW or any other German brand to be worried about.

I think you guys are forgetting that this new CTS is basiclly going to be a Vett with a CTS body on it .... they are using the new s/c motor from the new ZR1 and they are using the entire driveline and rear end. I dont think its going to only be a straight line car as I know that what the old one was know for and I think they really want to change that.

Also I too saw a new CTS in person. The car is 1,000 nicer then the old one and the interior is one par with the new G35 if not better (and I honestly think the new G35's interior is as nice as my E90s if not nicer).

lol... funny to even see a discussion of a Cadi and M5... although I thought I saw one here in my area. The headlights have these LED check marks going from the bottome of the light back to the side... wonder if its the same car??? Ugly... though...

I remember GM making the same kind of comment with CTS-V against the E39 M5's and nothing happened. So they should keep their mouth shut until the car is out.
