Funnily, I turned it down at 1st, but when my CA took me to the parking lot to show me his car, his buddy's M3's tire had a bubble in it. His buddy was like "well, time for me to use my tire insurance!" I saw that as a sign, and went back inside to get the insurance after all
I ended up getting aftermarket wheels/tires though, so it definitely wasn't worth it for me. I thought I would need it since the roads in NJ are so piss poor, but our OEM wheels are so strong and I was lucky enough not to do any damage to my wheels or tires so I was fine. If you like having that peace of mind though, the wheel/tire insurance will pretty much pay for itself if you damage just one wheel, so it seems like a nice to have.

I have an 09 E90 with 19" wheels and the original PS2s. I went to tirerack and picked the OE tires:

I only just noticed this, even though I've bought several sets of PS2's. TireRack has a compare feature, which I've screencapped here and highlighted the differences. This is for the e46 zcp. Not sure about the e92, etc...

When I bought my 350Z several years ago, the Bridgestone RE040 were a slightly unique design later re-released as the RE040A, so it is not without precednece that an OEM derivation can exist. Interestingly, I found that tire to be inferior to the S-02 Pole Position that Bridgestone made with a higher tread rating and lower noise...and that initial unique design proved to be flawed.

It may be academic, but the higher speed rating should translate into better heat tolerance, meaning better temperature control even at 75mph highways speeds. By the way, I highly recomend working with Mason at Tire Rack--he has real world experience testing tires with BMWs and knows fitments as well as anyone I've met.

I was planning on going with the Goodyear F1 Assymetric's from Tire Rack. 245/35/19 in the front and 265/35/19 in the rear. Is there any problem going with a non-PS2 tire or another brand for that matter. These goodyear's have a longer lasting tread wear rating than the ps2's and a set of 4's would be about 6-700$ cheaper. The only thing i can see the difference is are the tread patterns between the ps2's and the Assymetrix. I mean as long as you keep the tire size, speed and load ratings the same i should be ok right?
