How to minimize drone...

I have a 2013 DCT E92 M3, competition package

First I put only Supersprint race exhausts, as they were not so loud as other brands with their race exhausts. All perfect !

Then I added an X pipe, that deletes the first cats, but leaves secondary cats and resonators. I felt big performance improvement, but now I have some drone inside the cabin...

I know this is caused by the X pipe, although it has secondary cats and resonators. Now I am changing to a set of ESS rear exhausts, as I know they will sound quieter, and therefore hope to eliminate drone

But any hints how to minimize drone ? Wrap some parts of the exhaust system or so ?

Thanks in advance for the help !

Drone is much more complicated than people think. a quieter exhaust car have more drone than a loud exhaust. it has to more to do with exhaust design and how they deal with certain frequencies of sound.

the drone is actually more caused by the fact you got rid of your Helmholtz chambers that was found in the stock exhaust (mufflers). all the X pipe did was add to the already droning exhaust.

also you can run completely catless and have very little drone. you want a muffler that is design to deal with drone.

its all about the exhaust system you fun.

i had the supersprint race with secondary cat/res delete and that droned like hell at 2000rpm.

Some exhaust drone more than other.

STock no drone
test pipe + oem back box (no mod) - no drone
Akrapovic evolution - no drone (bassy shaking sound, sets of alarm, but still no drone in cabin, that alone is worth it for me! as a daily DCT driver in D2 mode)

Mine is a DCT and all the above I have tried.

supersprint race + xpipe mod really really drones.

I have the Challenge Race X pipe(deletes the primary and secondary cats) with the UUC Corsa rear. The X pipe seems to be causing the drone as the car with stock X pipe and UUC Corsa rear did not drone at all.

My drone seems to be minimal or almost eliminated if my trunk is full of stuff. I'm thinking of sewing a bean bag shaped like the trunk floor to see if that'll work.
