Question AB license plates

Hi guys,
i've been searching on the government websites, AMA, google, cant find an answer...
here in Edmonton, i see a fair share of license plates like 12-K345...
WTH is this??? my boss has one, most of the ones i saw were on high-end cars (Mercedes, Audi...) but i also saw one on a 20-y.o pick-up truck!!!

so, is this a specific category of vehicles? like vehicles registered for business and personal use (which would make sense for my boss)?

it's been bothering me for a while now...
if anyone know a link to a website, or any explanation for that, i would love it...

Thanks,
Pat

It is a commercial plate.

I have one on each of my cars. It allows me to park in commercial loading zones without fear of getting a ticket.

It costs about $10 more a year.

Great for quick DT parking without paying!

Thanks Benyl !!
i am assuming you gotta be a business owner to get one, correct? otherwise $10 / year for free parking sounds like a good deal

No need for a "business."

I just told them that I was a photographer and needed to move equipment in and out of buildings. Also, the GVWR needs to be above 4000lbs in order to qualify. Funny thing is that the C63, with my fat ass and a full tank of gas, is over 4000 lbs!

Car insurance companies don't ask for your plate. You need insurance before you can register the car, not the other way around. At least in Alberta anyway.

My insurance company asks whether the vehicle is for personal or commercial use. Not sure what would happen if I said personal and had a commercial plate.
