DCT Shift light operation
For those of you who have DCT... is there a way to adjust the shift light operation?
Driving a DCT, im finding that the shift lights only come on close to redline... is this normal? Thanks

Yep... thats how they work... I dont think you can adjust them... only turn on and off.
But if you buy a Performance steering wheel which has shift lights you can adjust them to kick in at different rpms.

Since I'm new to shifting in the DCT. So does this mean it's proper to shift when the car almost reach redline? I feel that it wear down the car at such high rpms so I have been shifting on average between 3000-4000 rpms. Please let me know what is correct.

... so why did you buy an M3? When the car is warm (oil) you can push it till the rev limiter, no problem at all, it is made for it. Of course when cruising you do not need to.

Dude, there's no right or wrong way, it all depends on how much acceleration you're after at any given time. Cruisin (max MPG), just shift on down low 3-4k like an auto would. For a little more spirited run, let the tach get well past vertical for your upshifts. And of course, for maximal umph and enjoyment, take that muther to the redline and squeeze off those shifts high!

Do you really need shift lights to shift at 3000 rpm? Or, are you looking for some sort of performance minded shift lights, like in the old 80s Mazdas, that told you to upshift at 2000 rpm?

the purpose of the shift lights (imo) is to alert you that you're reaching the top of the RPM range without the driver having to take his/her eyes off the road. You should be able to see the lights in your peripheral vision. I think of it as a saftey feature while driving aggresively.
If you're shifting at 3-4k RPM, I don't really see a need for the shift lights to come on.
