Damn, we need to start writing to our senators & congressmen. Or, replace them.

What makes you think she can't afford the car herself? Just because she asked him if she could get it? Considering the "financial implications", I'd expect any husband OR wife to at least ask each other before making a huge purchase. |

Let's put this conversation into some context, boys.
There are women M3 owners on this board here, and my guess is at least some of us don't have M3s just because of the pretty red and blue colors on the M logo. Meanwhile, 99% of the guys I know have no clue about cars. They can read the BMW logo and at that point most will have drawn their conclusions. Others might notice snazzy wheels and assume that makes a car racy or expensive. Some would say that any BMW is an extravagance and point to their own virtue of buying a piece of Korean crap that costs twice as much as your used BMW sedan. Many men in this part of the country get oversized jacked-up pickups, add lots of bling, custom oversized wheels and open headers, and will spend M prices on them (including a few hundred for the naked woman mudflaps and swinging testicles for the trailer hitch ), but my feeling is that women don't do the same primarily because why the heck would we want to? On the other hand, many, if not most, women know quality (and if she doesn't, what does that say about you?), and while perhaps not as many women may prefer an M3 over an X6 or 550i, that's more about personal taste and preference, and not about awareness. And perhaps some social pressures (such as the insightful comments in this thread). In my family, as it happens we all drive BMWs (different models). And it's my mother and my sisters drive who my M3 much more appropriately than my father and brother-in-law: the women get it, the men not so much. That's just how it happens to be. So guys, maybe it's time for some of you to stand up straight and put some band-aids on your knuckles, eh? In my book, OP has a cool wife and I'd love to meet her and her M3 someday! |

OP, how was your search this past weekend? Find anything interesting? Keep up posted with what you end up doing... and pics if it turns out the M3-way!

We've talked some more and she's not as concerned with the specific options as long as it has DCT, convenience, and Premium 2. Our X5 was pretty much loaded (except for the wimpy 3.0 engine) as was the E90 330i, so you get used to things like Nav and CA even if it's not exactly part of the M3 experience. Really, she mostly wants the M3 for the power and the '///M' aspect. I think to not get ZCP would be shortchanging us at this point in the game. Looking forward to some driving!

Yeah, go for all the options. As you said, a lot of those are not exactly part of the M3 experience, but my M3 experience is richer for them.
