ROLL-CALL: Buttonwillow 9/19 & 9/20 - San Diego BMW CCA

I signed up! Will be my 3rd event, I've done Infineon & Auto club.. and I've seen a few of you guys from the board at the events! Anyone else goin?

I've heard this track is hard on brakes, and unfortunately I'll be running a completely stock setup.. I had some brake fade even at Auto Club.. and some of these turns look nastier..

Also, if anyone has gone and has any tips/advice for the track, please share!

(take a look.. cool ain't it? )

I'm going! Never been to Buttonwillow, but have heard great things so looking forward to it.

I'll be running PFC-01 pads up front, with some new track shoes. Everything else will be stock. Can't wait.

Auto Club is probably the worst track in CA with regards to brakes. It's more a function of the speed changes/braking zones, not the turns. Buttonwillow has a number of more technical track segments, not so much point and go like Auto Club, but not as technical as Infineon either, in between.

Glad you could make it. Buttonwillow is a great track, been there a good number of times now. Now if we can have a nice cool day, added bonus.

Regarding brakes, Buttonwillow is fairly freindly. Lots of areas to cool them off.

edit: If you guys can, park on the left side of the main tower when coming in, plenty of space.

Fun to tease the e90post guys also....

Dealer may do it for free if it's part of a normal service. Otherwise most indies charge a nominal ~$20 fee. I did mine at
http://www.apexengineering.com/astore/
It was approx $100 because I needed a break flush as well. Took about 1hour.

Darn, I wish I would have looked here before going. I attended. It was my 3rd time at this track but only had my E36 M3 there prior. I hadn't been in so long I more or less forgot the line entirely. I also had some severely worn rear tires which kept me plodding along a lot slower and more conservatively than I would have liked.... Oh well it was still fun.

Yep, first run on Sat, someone in the A group

AFAIK the only black flags were A'ers.

After the first run things calmed down a lot.

Guilty. But, the first flag amounted to the red tent wondering why we were brought in. We wondered as well. So they told us good job keeping eyes up and sent us on our way.

Second time, I squirreled on the burm on 11. Instructor told me to come in despite not going off and had to again explain to red tent why I was there.

Little odd. But, apparently there were 5 flags in our first session!

On Sunday, we were chumming along pretty well when we noticed S/F throwing a very aggressive black flag at us. Wondered why, and thought it was me getting loose in Taladega - nope. They said we dropped two wheels, TWO times. For the life of me, I don't know what they were talking about. But, no time to argue - losing track time. So, took the charge and tried to make amends to the corner workers. That one was really unnerving.

Official Event Photos

BTW:
Vanhap will probably post the HPDE photos online in a few days. You can browse and buy them online. The browseable photos are lower res and have the Vanhap watermark on them, but still good viewing.

Link is at..

By the pic's, it looks like there were A, B, C, D groups?

Were the Club Racer's there too?

Hellride, seems like you need to wave to the corner works a little more vigorously on those warm-up/cool down laps!!

Not enough signed up for A,B,C,D (AFAIK) so D was dropped and the Club racers ran in what probably would have been D slots. It was great to watch them.
I think originally the Club racers were supposed to run on Friday but got shifted to Sat/Sun mix.

No doubt. My instructor was saying the same thing. So we were on parade duty arms way out waving on the warm ups. I was even contemplating heading to the store to buy them all some beer, gatorade - anything!
