Opinions on Service History

I am interested in buying a 2008 e90 M3 w/ 28k. I had the PPI done (good report from dealer, but I'm not very confident in their report). I asked the dealer where I had the PPI done for the DCS sheet and I was denied.

Tonight I bought the carfax. No service history at all for first 21K mi. It was sold as a "dealer car." The current owner said he is the second owner, but the carfax suggests three. If the carfax is correct he lied about how long he has owned the car.

I was ready to make an offer on the car on Sunday, but after looking at this report I am having second thoughts. Any way I could find out the service history of the car while it was owned by a dealer (first owner)? Would it make sense that this information is missing from carfax since a dealer owned it? Should I just stay away? Thanks.

Study the Carfax carefully, as the 3rd change in title may not mean another owner - i.e. lease was bought out by lessee, dealer had it titled after it did not sell within 30 days, etc.

However, if the dealer will not give you the DCS I would walk. Not a good sign.

Thank you for the reply. The owner of the car is calling the dealer tomorrow to give them permission to provide me with the service history. I did do some homework and find that the car had its 1,200 service done @ 2,500 miles. This bothers me, but considering the low miles on the car and the positive PPI I think I should be OK?

I am very picky about stuff like this...... If one of the scheduled oil changes were a bit long it wouldn't of bothered me but going over 1300 miles on the 1200 mile service would bother me....

I am sure you can easily find a one owner car with all documentation if you can wait a bit longer.

GL with your search.
