I don't have firsthand knowledge, but I would think it would. Check to see if the lighter socket is still "hot" with the key off. If electricity is being fed to the socket, you can feed it the reverse direction, as well.

I thinks its not hot. I have my V1 connected to it when the car shuts off the unit shuts off as well.

When I first got my M3 in March, I used the BMW Advanced Battery Charging System (battery tender) with the cigarette lighter adapter (I used it on my E46 M3 all the time without fail), but after a few weeks it stopped working (the cig lighter was no longer hot). I called my BMW service department, and they said the lighter shouldn't be hot when the car is off. So I bought a Battery Tender that hooks up directly to the battery. It's been working great!

I posted a similar thread back in March:

Yep, that thing looks exactly like my Deltran Battery Tender Plus. Same amperage rating as well. I use it on my M3 and it works like a champ. But I hook it up into the engine bay at the jump start terminals. Saves you from having to leave a window or a door open to run the power cable into the cabin.

Does it have the quick disconnect end on it? If it does, all you need to do is buy the alligator end for it. Only $6.95. The Schumacher chargers at Walmart use that same quick disconnect end in their little $20 maintainer.

That's what I bought for my E92; I connected the terminal lugs (with the quick disconnect) directly to the battery in the trunk. I didn't think about hooking them to the jump start terminals under the hood, good idea!

Badfish, do you keep the alligator clips attached under the hood, and then just plug in the quick disconnect? I'm just wondering if the alligator clips could fall off while driving.

No I don't. But I do plan to hardwire a quick disconnect to somewhere outside of my car, like in the lower front bumper area where I can hide it. Then I don't have to pop the hood or put on the alligator clips on each time.

If you have a BMW cigarrette lighter type you can get an adapter like this to use. I just found it at Radio Shack today. It is a female lighter socket to alligator clip adapter.
