2003 E55 vs e9x m3..?

Are the e55\'s that fast? There\'s a string believer that this car can outperform our m3\'s. I\'ve searched and they do seem powerful, but I\'m wondering your take. Some of you maybe experienced the car..

Straight line a healthy w211 E55 will smoke an E9x M3.

Great motor, fast car. Straight line? Probably pretty close. Curves? Driver mod is the most important consideration.

I just bought a CLS63 and that thing feels like a rocket. I don't know about the E55 but those are fast too, I think 0-60 times are the same for the M3 and E55.

Actually the 2003 E55 has a 0-60 time of 5.1 sec compared to the M3's 4.7 sec. This from MB world.

Stock E55's trap about 120mph in the 1/4mi, the E92 M3 traps at MOST 115mph stock, most of the time a little lower than that.

Wow, so the numbers are that close. I thought the 2003 came NA and wasn't as fast as the newer Supercharged. Maybe I'm wrong,

Quick car for it being almost 10 years old.

2003 was the w211, supercharged, rated at 469hp, but it was under rated from the factory. It actually made the same hp as the other supercharged V8 AMG mercedes, just above 500hp at the crank.

The w210 E55 AMG was not supercharged and only made 356hp.

Absolutely. Especially since they're tuner favorites. The only chance a M3 has against one is if it's having water pump or supercharger issues. Otherwise, even a mildly modded M3 will lose to one.

I don't know, I kept up with a late model E55 in my 135i with Dinan stage 2 software. I don't think my 135i was faster than an M3.

03-05 E55 will take an m3 all day long. Modded ones run 11's. But I have an M3, and I don't care if the E55 is faster.

I've got a 2005 CLS55, and I'm pretty sure the 55 is much faster than the M3 in a straight line. Doesn't come close in the corners though.

i dont know about the e55, however I drove the new E63 and damn...

When im a dad itll be difficult toss up between the m5 and e63!

Merc has the best sounding V8s. Even their boosted 5.5 V8 sounds like their NA 6.2. The E55 with a tune, pulley, and exhaust they are pretty much 4 door missiles.

The E55's have ALOT of torque (especially bottom end) so they can pull hard in almost any RPM range.
Straight line race the E55 will win.

That is all stop light races are. How many times has the M3 been considered the better overall car even when another was faster... lots. I have never understood the whole "my car can beat your car to that stop light" pissing match. I guess that when someone drives a faster car, their e-peen must be larger too

I swear that if someone invents a car that traps 150 in the 1/4 mile but only has one seat, no radio, shitty brakes, can't corner worth crap and is unreliable to boot it would still be the "coolest" car to own on the forums

Not a comment about the E55 but rather the whole "which car is faster" pissing match. The significance people put on a car's speed (which, BTW, is only one of its many characteristics) is just crazy. I guess that 458 owner who lost to the SC M3 and GTR should sell his crappy ass car cause it isn't the fastest.

OP... none of this necessarily directed at you... just ranting because of the sheer number of times people make a car's power and speed the only factor that matters. It's a pet peeve

I do however doubt the 120mile trap in stock form.
