Is it true that the p40SC costs more the p40S. Unless I'm missing something the wheels are identical except for the machined concave profile and the obvious barrel thickness.

Damn you... I just a got price on the p40sc from my local hre dealer in tinted brushed for my Jerez black e92 and now I can't resist... I was a little unsure on the color but ahhhhh damn it I have to make a phone call...

Why shape like a cone? Weight savings? Because most concave wheels use more material and adds weight

Should have called it the "pedantic" series. "Ahem, technically these wheels are not concave, and actually nobody's wheels are concave. Here's a geometric definition of concave."
Sweet looking wheels though, I like them a lot better than the flat-faced HRE designs which never looked quite right to me. Would be interested in hearing the weight of an 18x10 and 18x11. This shape seems like a great way to reduce the weight of the huge mounting pad on the flat face wheels.
