To the OP. One of our cats used to chew cables - I don't know what we did to break the habit except, anytime I caught her going behind the computer desk, I would raise hell by banging on the desk and shouting like a madman. Same way we taught the cats to stay off the kitchen counter.

Now, they pretty much own the house except for computer desk and kitchen counter.

PS - I used to live on Quakerbridge Road (Avalon condos)

Thats funny, thats exactly where I live. Theres a lot of us on the forum as of late that live here now or did at one point. Definitely a small world.

Ok, so I got the bitter apple stuff yesterday and sprayed it vigilantly all over my wires.

This morning Im at the computer and my cat does his thing of walking under my chair to the cables. I watch what happens. He takes a nice mouthful of his favorite wire only to let go. Then he looks at me. Then he goes for the next wire and takes a good bite. Then he looks at me again. This goes on for about 5 more wires until I think he got the hint and left from under my desk.

Its been 20 mins and he hasnt returned yet. YAY!

I am sure he will have his revenge somehow, somewhere.

He keeps going back to chew so apparently theres not enough electricity flowing to give him a shock.

Anyone else experience this? Is there anything I can spray on the wires to keep him from doing this? Hes not a kitten as hes going to be 7 in November. I dont get it.
Do it the country way and use one of those cables to whip his ass with he'll get the point real quick.

Update: All has been well in the past couple days. No chewing of any kind although he does keep going back to check. That bitter apple stuff may have done the trick.

Secondly, I resoldered the wires back together and the speakers are working just fine again.

I had a dog that used to do that. One thing you can do is put the wires neatly together and cover them with the wire covers you can buy at like Home Depot. Another thing is to tuck them behind a piece of furniture where he can't get at them.

My dog is afraid of wires. He cried out in pain, when my soft-sided brief case fell off the table...he was in the other room...

Was he a rescue? Maybe some of the members on here who suggested using the wires as whips or for strangling might have owned him before you.

Unfortunately its an open computer table with wires going in every which way. Too hard to put a cable wrap around them.

That being said, I would have gone bezerk if he was able to get to my home theater cables. With some of them being almost $100/ft he would have been testing the "land on 4 legs" theory.

My previous cat had that problem. She went through two computer mice (no jokes, please), one keyboard, the power supply for the network switch twice, two cell phone chargers, three sets of Christmas lights (off the tree), several network cables, and I've lost track of what else.

I had no choice but to lock her away from the computers, hide the cables well so she couldn't reach them, and wait for her to grow out of the phase. (Several years!)

EDIT: The bitter spray and sour apple sprays did NOT work. My cat seemed to like the taste.

To the OP -- buy a water pistol.

I prefer very bright yellow. I have a small water pistol and everytime the cats go someplace I don't want them too, I just fire away. It makes me feel good and they get the lesson. Now, its to the point that I just need to show them the pistol and they stop.

Yeah, I mentioned somewhere in the thread that the water pistol didnt help. He likes water. He sticks his head under his waterfall, the faucet and jumps into the shower. Actually, I was raised with cats and Ive never met one that didnt like water. I think thats an old wives tale.

Mine hate it, except to look at in the toilet bowl as it swirls.
