Advice on 2009 BMW M3 E90/E92

I'm in the market to get a USED M3 with low miles, no preferences on E90 or E92, just need some advice on if the 2009 models are even worth it or if they are too problematic (issues)? My price I'm looking to spend is 50K. Any feedback is appreciated thanks

50 k will get you in the 2010/2011 range, depending on mileage of course. FWIW, I just purchased a 2009 e90 with 39000 miles for around $37500

ok the two cars i'm looking at, both 2009. Both has Sport and Technology Package, nav, blue tooth etc.

E90 - 15K miles
E92 - 19K miles

Both are asking for 45K, they have mods hence the 5K bump in price over MSRP.

I don't have personal experience in this, so apologies for the 2nd hand info: But based on threads in other forums, most mods don't increase the value of the car. If others have had personal experience, they should jump in. Regardless, you might try offering blue book value (or below) and see if you get a bite.

And my 2009 has run like a watch so far, other than a rattle that needed fixing. Good luck!

Thanks guys for all the info/advice! I'm going to try for KBB, yeah I didn't think mods would add to the value of the car, both for cars are including all stock parts!

I picked up a 2010 CPO E90 with almost every option for just over 50k, and that was last year. You should be able to find a CPO 2011 for that kind on money now.

OP, I note that you are in Cali, as am I. I spent at least six months looking at used M3s online before I pulled the trigger. Like pretty much everything else, you can expect to pay a little more for your M3 here than in most other parts of the country. That said, I think you should be looking at 2010s if you have $50k to spend.

There's very little differences between 09, 10, 11.
There's BIG difference between those and an 08, however.

Betwen 09, 10, 11, maybe LED tails, different oil caps, updated map (but same CIC I drive), updated idrive with bluetooth and ipod app and stuff (not familiar), position of heated seats, and the notorious start/stop in 11 models, and that's about it. Nothing major in mechanical, technical, or aesthetics.

I was in the same market as well, didn't look for an 11 because of
1. price
2. was still rare when i was searching in 2012
3. i hated the notorious start/stop technology and thought it was useless, and I didn't want ANY additional electronics that I didn't need...(plan to keep the car long)
4. don't need 11's competition package. All i need is 359 Comp wheels which i can get later and i know imma lower the car with KW V3 coilover later...

but more important would be the previous use of the car, more so than the MY.
go with
1. "best" previous history
2. low mileage (but not TOO low...a properly used engine is better than never used sitting home garaged engine)
3. good option list + good price

CiC nav is HUGE difference.. my CCC seem ancient by modern standards and the old iDrive control/interface is absolutely obnoxious.

Cosmetically, the LCI tail light swap is easy and relatively inexpensive.

I was the first to get a 08 e92 M3 with 6MT.. it had some issues and traded it for a fully loaded 2009 e92 DCT and enjoy it up to now. 2009s is Problem Free and it's a fine car, depending of course how the owner drove it.
Mine, with its low miles at 22k, a Space Grey/Blk interior, mid 45k as previous poster mention is about what I expect to get from it.
