2 Questions about Michillin Pilot Sport + weight
1. Does anyone know if the weight of the Michilin Pilot Sport Cup Tires are more or less than the Pilot Sport PS2's???
2. Does anyone have any personal experience between filling your tire with compressed air and filling it with nitrogen? Any information about the difference in weight between the Max Performance Summer tires vs Cup Tires will be greatly appreciated. And I'd like to know what all the hype is about using nitrogen in your tires. Thanks

PS2 vs PSC weight
Weights are on the Michelin or Tire Rack websites. SC is a pound or so lighter, probably mostly due to less tread depth.

Yeah, I dont really see the big deal with using Nitrogen especially on bmw's with the tire pressure sensor. You get a warning when the pressure is low, i get warnings when the pressure is just 5psi off. I just dont see having to go back to the one shop in the area that has nitrogen. I have a small 3 gallon compressor and I take care of the tire pressure myself.
My biggest suggestion to you is look to at the mods that remove the first Cat in the exhaust system, you live in Florida, as you know, no emissions testing. |

If there are any performance improvements I guess I'd try it, other than that it seems more like just something different or bragging rights to say Ohh I have nitrogen in my tires. lol I guess that's not all bad hehe Thanks for the reply.

Sorry if my response can across wrong. I was explained a while ago about the benefits in using nitrogen and I thought it was fine for my beater I drive but unecessary with newer bmws based on the TPM technology and the analness that most of us have about our cars (me having my own compressor to check and fill the tires). Though to try to clear things up here is a quote from a website for the reasoning behind using nitrogen.
"Filling your tires with nitrogen mainly does two things: it eliminates moisture, and it replaces skinny oxygen molecules with fat nitrogen molecules, reducing the rate at which compressed gas diffuses through porous tire walls. That means, theoretically at least, that a tire filled with nitrogen retains optimal pressure longer, leading to more uniform tire wear and better gas mileage" Also, I have never read about performance gains using nitrogen. I think if there was some, it would be plastered all over this site and dinan would prolly charge 2k to do it. |
