BMW X5 diesel updates?

Scotty26,

Can you expand on your post regarding the possible x5 40d?
Is this for the USA market also or elsewhere only for now?
I just placed an order for a 35d and would much rather wait for an update if it is imminent in the USA.

Thanks

Not for US consumption. 35d will remain.

The European Press launch and first drives of the F10 commence in February.
The World Premiere at an Autoshow will be Geneva in March. Crucially the 5er will debut in the European market on March 20th.

The North Amercian premiere of the new 5er will be at New York in April. Press launch and drives in the US will coincide after.
US market introduction is June 2010.

The X5 xDrive 4.0d will not be available in the US.

I read that too, it appears to be close to what I said a while back with regards to it's pricing and positioning between the 135i and M3, i.e. close to present M3 acceleration but below the level of the next one. Weight is the only thing I reckon is a touch higher than I expect it will be in reality, I don't believe it will weigh more than 1475kg. I noticed they said electronic M-diff, I wonder is this a system similar to that of the e-diff used by hint (remember that discussion South ).

I will be interesting to see how this project matures, might give a hint on BMW's thinking for the future M3.

Yeah, I remember. When I read the comment about the e-diff, I initally thought it was a mistake of them to assume the same e-diff as currently found in the E82 (and I still somewhat tend to think so, as they also claim a 6 speed DCT which makes no sense whatsoever). However, you might be right and they allude to the torque vectoring diff (aka DPC in the X6 and X5M).

Best regards,
south

I do think it was a typo on the gearbox ratios, it will definitely be a 7sp. As for the diff, well on this front there has been a lot of talk else where that this is expected to be introduced into the rwd BMW line up sooner or later and chances are an M will intro it first, it gives far more options to both driver and engineer than a stock LSD, even one as versatile as the M-Diff on current M cars. It can work in conjunction with the DSC's many systems to offer different modes of driving style and degree of slip before the systems reign everything in, to me it's the logical step after the M-Diff.

I also think the car will be offered with an optional adaptive suspension setup similar to that of the M3. As I said, I think you will possibly get some idea of what BMW have planned for the F30 M3 with this little car.

P.S.
See how easy it is to do a typo.

I get your point, but it's no typo. I was talking about the e-diff found in the E82 135i.

Best regards,
south
