looking to buy a rolex, does anyone have a watch/jewelery store connection?

go to Tourneau or any Rolex Authorized dealers. There's a bunch in NY/NJ.
I personally recommend NJ if you have NY address. Buy it as a gift at NJ AD and directly ship to your NY address, that way you avoid the tax (on a 10K watch you already save 700 bucks). i dunno if this is a gray way or whatnot, but this is what 80% of watch collectors actually do to save $$ + still get warranty instead of "unsafe" internet purchases.
These days you can get great deals on Rolex, even down to maybe just 300~500bucks above internet stores. Buying at AD is always a safe way, especially with Rolex warranty + their own AD warranty.

Do not waste your time or money at Tourneau. They were recently bought by a new corporation and no longer discount like they used (almost not at all). I go to Alicia's in the Bay Terrace shopping center in Bayside, NY. They are authorized for every brand they carry and usually discount 25%. I ask for Stella. Bought 2 Hamiltons, a Corum and a Montblanc from them. Never had one issue. If you want to use my name as a reference PM me.

it is getting harder and harder to find discounts on rolexes these days as corporate has been cracking down on dealers and rationalizing its distribution. do you know exactly what you want already? if not, go to any authorized dealer like a tourneau and check out the collection until you figure out the exact model (remember to write down the specific model #). i have dealt with george mayer at govberg watches in philly although it was for a JLC (they'll ship overnight for free) - they are also a rolex AD. george is great and can work with you - he personally is probably one of the most highly regarded dealer on the watch forums. not sure what they can do on rolexes (and it'll depend on the model as I was looking at a specific daytona) but it is absolutely worth giving him a call. send me a PM if you want his details.

Very hard to get discounts on Rolex from a AD these days. Only way is via gray market. I agree with jaehshim, Best way is to buy from AD in another state and have it shipped to your home. Save on the tax. GL

how are you guys not being taxed in nj? although clothes are tax free a watch, purse, etc are accessories and taxed no?

also AD= authorized dealer right?

no tax if shipped from a dealer out of state. AD = authorized dealer which means you get the full manufacturer warranty with papers, etc. and can be absolutely sure it is genuine. i always prefer to buy from an AD even if it is slightly more. many of the grey market shops that provide their own warranties do a really horrible job fixing high-end watches (they will not send it to the manufacturer to get it fixed).

Rolex has and will revoke franchise on any AD that discounts>10%. I have bought several high end watches on- line over ten years with NO problem. Anyone on the internet is much easier to check out as sites for feedback are wide spread. Great experience with Feel-good Watches, Paladin, tic-toc, Luxury Time board posts.
