both American owned as you probably know.
So what's the difference apart from badge Kudos & ££££££££
XK8 is at least £40k GBP cheaper than AM.
Both probably drive & handle the same.

M3 will outperform both cars ,drive & handle better than AM & XK but won't touch the sides of both cars in the styling dept.

Isn't styling what we're talking about??????? If not, go buy a Lotus Exige and save a crap load of money!!! After all, aren't these cars the "Look at Me" Chick magnet we're looking for or that we won't admit to to anyone!!

The new V8 Vantage is amazing. I'd consider getting that over a 997 S just for the looks alone.

Sadly, Aston is also owned by Ford - (sad if like me you're British).

It sounds stupid to me that you come to a M3 forum to ask opionion about deciding a M3 and a XK. However, I am happy to be the one to vote for the XK.

One more thing to consider: Since Ford owns Jaguar, the X-type was based on the Taurus frame. I can't help but think I might be driving a Ford disguised as a Jag.

Frankly, I'd just buy a super fast Supra Turbo from 10+ years ago before I'd consider a new Jag.

I think a person who buys a M3 or a XK are two different types of people. Which is more you? and go with that.

I can't afford either but I got my order in on the new 330i coupe! Supposed to come in September!

Actually jaguar's been using the grille design/shape for quite a number of years before the very notion of the Taurus grille was conceived. (think XK-E).

The new XK is a nice looking car, quite disappointed with the interior though, any semblance of Jaguarness have all but disappeared. Even the flawed but characeteristic J-gate is gone. The XK's interior might as well be a Lexus'.

If you are going to cross-shop the awaited E92 M3, wouldn't the upcoming XKR be a more valid comparison?

Not to nitpick but the X-Type actually shared platform with the Ford Mondeo (Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique) to us. The S-Type shared its platform with the Lincoln LS....just small details

I totally agree they are different cars, The XK obviously wont be as fast or exciting to drive as the E92 M3 but it is still a very special car and I think it targets the 6 Series more. However, The XKR is in testing and I think it might be a 4.3 supercharged V8, I really cant remember but it is going to be fast. I seen some spyshots and it has quad exhausts and hood vents and the intakes on the front bumper look different. I think the XKR still be targetting the M6 and not so much the E92 M3, although it will be interesting to see how they both compete...

btw ksfrogman you are right too, damn Supra's are fast lol and for a 13 year old car look brilliant, (I have a Veilside Supra)

I'll just put my vote in for the //M3 for sheer performance and respect.

Jaguar’s naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8, produce only 300 horsepower. Wait for the 400HP new M3 or get the glorous for an “R” jag edition.
