30% price increase on tires made in China

With Obama passing the tariff that increases the prices of tires made in China by 30%, will we be seeing prices for tires go up across the board?

I'm looking to purchase Bridgestone RE-11's within like 2-3 months, and they are made in Japan. What's everyone's opinion on the likelihood of this tire going up in price after the tariff is in effect?

I would guess that the price would stay the same.

The tariff is aimed at the bargain-basement tire segment and the large volume of these Chinese-made economy tires ("Walmart specials") being dumped into the U.S. market at much lower prices than the competition. There should be no effect on the expensive, high-performance market segment.

You may also recall a recent series of NHTSA warnings issued on the safety of certain brands of Chinese-manufactured tires.

But, I have to ask, if you're considering purchasing tires made in Japan, why would you worry about a tariff on Chinese-made tires?

Bridgestone has other tires made in China and I was afraid since it's the same company, it may just increase prices across the board. Your post provides some reassurance as well as the reminder of common sense: If their made in Japan, and the tariff affects tires made in China, it should have no change in price.
