$20 for a loaner
So I've moved from Arkansas to Nashville, TN and was near the BMW dealership. My tires were looking a little low so I stopped in to have them checked out.
While waiting, I saw some signs on the service advisors desks saying "Due to higher gas prices, loaner cars now carry a $20 surcharge." That's totally BS if you ask me. I wanted to give them the :finger:, but I'll wait until I have to bring my car in for service to give them the :finger:

That's BS. Sure, it's reasonable for them to request that you return it with the same amount of gas in it as it had when you took it, but a flat $20 fuel surcharge is a crock.

Doesn't make sense if you have to return the car with the same amount of fuel...
If you don't, pay the $20 and siphon all the gas you can...

Doesn't all dealers charge you about $20 if you don't return the loaner with the same amount of gas that was originally in the tank?

IMO the US doesnt have a gas price problem, it's just a case of culter shock to the recent change. Look at the gas pricing vs the average hourly wage for the US in the past 20-30 years. It has usually runs at approximatly 3 gallons per average hourly wage. Then in the mid 90's we were able to buy 6-8 gallons per average hourly wage. Even now we can get over 4 for the national average of $13/hr. When the gas prices rise slower then the overall econmy they eventually have to catch up which is what we are seeing now.
Anyhow just my 2c, and yes I think all dealers charge you for gas missing at return just like rental car places. Jesse |

Hay it could be worse, you dealer could give you a non BMW loner and charge youon top of it. So just be happy you at least had to pay for a BMW loner and not a Dodge Neon.
When the dealer charges me $20 I'm happy, because I won't feel guilty about beating the SHIT out of the loner....trust me the $20 is worth it. I always return a $20 loner with a big grin on my face. My motto with loners is "drive it like you stole it"

I agree that having to pay $20 flat rate is . I'd make sure I got $20 worth of off-roading done while I had it!

I wouldn't mind to pay the $20 if I they'd lend me a good loaner car. Last time my E90 was in the shop because of the iDrive for 3 days, it took a day to get the our loaner (X3) and the front passenger door wouldn't open, it was a complete joke.

Most dealerships just ask fro you to replenish gas to the same level when you borrowed the car. I don't really see a problem with that.
I guess they just want to inform the customers upfront of the policy they were likely not enforcing at first, but due to the gas prices they will start enforcing their policy. Really, how hard is it for someone to return the car with the same amount of gas in it? |

All of my gas is free. Or if we do have to stop somewhere it's very cheap...I'd say less than $1.50. But if you go to certain parts of Iraq, you can expect to pay more because of the intermittent supply of gas to gasoline stations.

And you're crying why? They are loaning you a car while yours is in for service; they dont have to even do that...
Our local dealer charges a $10 fee for using one of their loaners. IMO, its not enough. After working there and seeing what people would do to the loaners, it made me sick. No smoking signs in the car? Customers say who cares and smoke anyways. Idiots. They would bring the cars back with damage too. What happens to them? Nothing. That is the dealership's fault for turning a blind eye. So they (customers) got their $10 worth... edit: lol, this post is a little all over the place but hopefully people see my point. |
