Not surprising, the R8 is awesome but aging, the 911 is a new design (991) with tons of electronics/features (4 wheel steering, adjustable suspension, etc, etc)

R8 all the way! That is a car that looks feels and sounds like a supercar! Not that other ugly duckling in the test. I also find it ironic how people say a GT-R has no soul and no feel and it's all the computers doing the driving, and the rest of the usual garbage. Yet the 911 Turbo is just as much a techno wizardry playstation on wheels as the GT-R is, but somehow it never gets criticized for it. Fanboyism too much?

I agree. The 911 Turbo is a much different car than the standard 991S, and not exactly for the best. I would take the V10 R8 over many cars, including possibly even a 991 GT3.

I think for track use the R8 is not even in the same league as the 991 GT3.

I don't have a track within four hours of me so I could care less. If it looks good, handles well and sounds amazing I'll love it. And R8 is definitely cooler than a GT3.

IMO the 911 turbo has always been the soulless Porsche. compared to the rest.

the GT3 is the true 911 IMO

I'm not sure about always...I had three of the old school 2wd turbos (no traction or stability control) and they were fabulous cars to drive, way more difficult to drive than the NA 911s of the time and far more rewarding as a consequence.
There are always complaints that modern performance cars have way too many nanny aids, but the fact is that its these aids that stop a lot of drivers from throwing them into the scenery at the first opportunity.
The downside is not knowing who is actually in control, the upside for me is that in (Euro) MDM I can throw my M3 around in a manner I would never had dared with a pre-nanny 911 of any description.
Having said that, its a tough call choosing between the R8 and the 911 turbo.

I agree.

I would take GT3 over 911T or 911tS.
Heck, I would take RS v10+

back in the old school days everything was more "hardcore".

for the 997 and 991 (recent models) i have always liked the GT3 more than the turbo. plus IMO the turbo sounds like crap also. it STRUGGLES to make engine noise. where a GT3 or even a V10 R8 sing songs. idk if i can spend 150k+ for a performance car that doesn't have the whole package

Agree, perhaps there is some sort of connection here. I can't place my finger on it but I think it rhymes with zen!

I've just watched this video 3 times in a row. That might be the most impressive internal combustion music I've heard in a long time...
And the flames on the downshifts, oh yeah. Magnificent.
Now where is the closest Audi dealership...

Good night that exhaust is wicked!! Interesting comments about the 911T escaping the bad rap about the nannies, whereas the gtr always seems to get pegged with that criticism....I guess I never thought of it like that....but I surmise that u r correct! I've always like the r8....it just gets better and better, and sadly, more expensive.....

buy a r8 v10 and throw a set of bolt-on turbos on it. That to me would be so much fun and my next project

love the one off custom widebody on TSMs new One Lap Of America R8
