Test pipes with custom resonated x-pipe?

I like the idea of getting the test pipes to gain that valuable HP, but HATE the raspy sound that comes as a result. Does anyone make resonated x-pipe that completely or nearly completely eliminates rasp?

On my e46, I purchased a rasp terminator that worked well. Anything equivalent for our E9x M3's?

AS long as you retain the 2ndary cats and stock resonators, there isn't much rasp when using test pipes IMO. If you have a different xpipe or modified the OEM one, then I don't know the answer.

You're safe with Bypass Track Pipes, just don't remove the resonators.

+1. is it going to be with stock mufflers? here's a video of test pipes and stock mufflers revving on our thread: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=759459

No. I have the oem exhaust mod (perf pipe replacement). Love the more aggressive note. Just not the rasp.

I'll check out that video. Thanks!

If you are already sensitive to the rasp with just the oem mod I advise you to stay away from test pipes. If you insist on test pipes then you will want to consider a different exhaust as oem mod + test pipes = rasp.

Sorry, let me expand. I LOVE the OEM mod, and everything/sound that comes with it.

What would be ideal would be keeping the same sound, or slightly louder, but no appreciable increase in Rasp or tinny-ness. I'd even take more bass, just not the horrific rocks in a coffee grinder attached to a horn, rasp.

Interesting the test pipes sound kind of like the oem mod, just more raw.

Perhaps the answer is having resonated test pipes. Has anyone replaced primary cats with resonators?

The macht schnell design is very appealing. So add resonators to that and we have something!

MS track pipes + OEM mod is REALLY loud. I started with the MS pipes and stock muffler and there was way too much rasp. So I went to an Akra slip on and eliminated the rasp and really love the result.

I found a clip of the akra slip on plus test pipes. Interesting and a good (but expensive) way to cut down the rasp.

However, I think i like the sound of the oem mod better.

I was in the same boat as you. Have the oem mod and wanted a little more volume. I removed the secondary cats which produced a noticeable increase in volume. However, this also made it very raspy. I got sick of it after a while and welded in resonators where the secondary cats were.

After all that I have really found that the oem mod is the best you can get in terms out sound quality, volume, and drivability. Bottom line, if I were you I would either just keep what you have (maybe you can fall in love again) or look for aftermarket if you want more volume.

Anyone make a quad resonated x-pipe without cats, or preferably a hi-flow primary to cut down on the smell?

That should do the trick, no?

Borla and Dinan make quad resonated xpipes, but I think they will still be louder than stock. I just went through this adding a dual res xpipe to my oem mod and it was ridiculously loud and raspy. I put back the stock muffler and its still raspy and loud, but a bit more bearable. Best bet is if you don't like the rasp and you want to mod the xpipe, you have to give up the oem mod and upgrade to a different aftermarket muffler. I sold my oem mod and got a megan exhaust...

100% I have the OEM exhaust mod (which I really enjoy also) but I paired that with an xpipe and it was unbearable. You need to go with a different aftermarket muffler for it be livable with xpipe.

I learned the hard way.

So does anyone make a test pipe with a resonator on it? That would provide 4x resonators plus the secondary cat to keep noise down but free up power. Also keeps smell at bay.

Let me know if this exists or if anyone made something custom.

Thanks

No. A test pipe is simply a straight pipe to replace the primary cats.

ACM was looking at adding resonators to their test pipes if there was enough interest.
