This post totally confused me. I'm intrigued what this "big secret in every BMW to date" is, but at the same time... dude tl;dr. He really didn't say much of anything towards the point in that whole post except the words boot and painting.

Btw, I really hope he has something of substance and real to say. And he doesn't turn it into a joke by throwing in one of these...

The rechargable flashlight in my E36 eventually got to the point where it wouldn't hold a charge any longer. Which is the downfall of NiCad batteries they can only be charged a limited number of times. The newer flashlight is a LED non-rechargable which will last a lifetime and because it's LED the battery will also last a long time. I much better solution IMHO.

I'm guessing you don't have the USB/iPod interface -- it's intended to hold the device.

My '07 335i had the older style, dealer-installed interface (cable in glove box), with no nice way to secure the iPod. It was also WAAAAAAAAAAAY more limited (and SLOWER) than the current system.

OBTW, has anybody tried to play iPod (MP4) files from a memory device? So far, I've used a USB thumb drive and played MP3s. They sounded fine, but once or twice, the USB device disconnected and the audio system reverted to FM. What have others found?

Can anyone confirm that the M3 comes with an LED flashlight and that it isn't just a nice item added by the dealer? I took delivery of my 09 at the Performance Center and I even asked them about a flashlight, and they said it doesn't come with one. I know my buddy who got an 08 locally got a flashlight. It isn't a big deal, but it sounds like some of us aren't getting them.

My flashlight was sealed in the same bag as the owners manual, as I recall. It certainly was included with the car.

This might be another feature (like the iPod pouch) that was discontinued for '09.

Mine has dirt magnetised paint work. Every time I take the bloody thing out no matter how short the journey it comes back stinking.

oh, thanks..yeah that explains it, i don't have any ipod interface. and my car came with the flashlight, it was a 5/08 build.

i was trying to figure this out too, until i decided to just push it. sure enough the driver's side armrest just slides forward.
