Wheel Refinishing

When we took delivery of our car one of the 19" rims had a nick in it. The dealership agreed to fix the rim. When I took the car in this week the wheel refinisher took one look and said he can't fix a rim with that high of polish. He said he could do the repair but his machine would leave a groove in the metal which is unacceptable to me.

The dealership now says that we can either take the refinishing or deal with the damaged wheel. They are refusing to put a new rim on it. They did agree to pay to have someone fix it if I can find anyone that can do it. Does anyone know of someone that can do it to the factory finish level?

darn that sucks.... but the guy is right...the factory finish will be hard to replicate 100%. if this was the stock 18s, it would be way easier.

yeah the 19's are difficult. I curbed one slightly and had it repaired. I was told the only fix wasnt exact as it cant replicate the original grooves that where made when the wheels where originally produced. They filled and polished the damaged area then used a very expensive metal paint then cleared over this. I cant tell where the damage was unless i look for the tiny grooves in the wheels surface. They had to do a much larger section of the wheel then what was damaged so it could be blended to not show. Im happy with the results rather than to buy a new wheel at this point.

How much did that cost? I have a couple of minor issues on one of the wheels.

it was 200$ kind of on the steep side but made me feel like it never happened which is the point.

That's what I was guessing. They wouldn't really touch a wheel for less than $150. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Was the car brand new?
