No factory alarm for 2011 e92 after it\'s built??
Just found out from the dealer that there is no factory alarm available for my 2011 m3 after the fact. I would've needed to pre-order the car with it so that BMW could install at time of build. Apparently, BMW feels theres no need to prewire the m3 just in case the buyer would like to add it on after taking delivery. Now I am stuck with an expensive car which is begging to be broken into.
Bad move BMW! What were you guys thinking anyway!? |

I wonder if the dealer would be able to wire the car so that the alarm light turns on when the car ignition is off and the doors are locked. All I need is a deterrent and dont need the audible.

Retro is possible, just will cost more than if you got it to begin with.. the other option is to get the module that EAS sells that chirps and activates the clown nose but really isn't an alarm.

I really don't see the issue here. Why would BMW want to pre-wire the alarm system in and waste valuable man hours and equipment in the process. If you wanted it then it should have been ordered initially.
BMW cannot possibly pre-wire every car with every option just in case of a "what if" Just my 2c |

BMW pre-wired the OEM alarm (and the telephone as well) for 10 model years in the USA, from the MY1999 E46 all the way to the MY2009 E90 as standard equipment. |

E93 - 2010 M3 Alarm Retrofit
Just to jump on the bandwagon here, albeit a bit late to this thread, BMW is free to not pre-wire the cars that they build as long as a viable alternative exists; which it doesn't!
My SA strongly advised against installing ANYTHING aftermarket, especially anything electrical, as you will most likely void a very large portion of your warranty because almost everything is tied into the electronics in one way or another. I just replaced the battery in my 2006 E60 550i and had to pay for an hour of coding! I'm not the litigous sort, but at this point I believe that there is a strong case for a class action lawsuit. I've never owned a car where I can't touch the electrical system for fearing of 1) voiding the arranty; 2) having computer errors when you change anything - you run this risk just changing a light bulb! |

Let's jump on the "class action suit" bandwagon again. Research this expensive car before you buy it. My SA was very knowledgeable about this issue in 2009. My 2 cents.

As an aside its common to prewire items on many different cars where the option that would use that wiring is not actually installed. Its a bean counting thing. It can be cheaper to build with wires unused on some models than manage multiple stocks and their eventual installation if it differs. From the OEM standpoint it doesn't matter anyways. They count costs down to the penny for every car and the cost of that unused wire is reflected in the price across the model line.
