Should I add BMW Apps 6NR?
I have an E93 on order, and I have time to add 6NR if I want to. My understanding is that it costs $250 plus some amount for a "snap-on adapter"(?).
I am not a complete non-techie, but can someone please explain to me, in layman's terms, why I want this option (or not). I have successfully resisted Facebook and Twitter, and this will likely not change. I do listen to my iPod (iPhone) in my car, and the interface seems pretty good. Are there some cool future applications for this feature that make it worth getting? Thanks. |

When you factor in 6NF (SmartPhone Integration) $150 the cost for 6NR is only $100 since it includes 6NF now. I would speculate for $100. All additional future BMW apps (if any) will be free. I could care less about the twitter/facebook integration but perhaps someone else will when I sell the car 5-6 years from now.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I don't have an iphone, but do have an ipod touch (even though it doesn't say the touch will work with it). But who knows, if I get one in the coming year, I'd regret not having it. For $250, it's worth the gamble.

Well, its more than just the $230 6NR option. These are what you need to add on top of that option
-639 BMW assist = $685 -6FL = $365 -6NF Smart phone integration = $135 Total = $1415 (euro delivery price) That's a bit steep for the option to see Facefail on your Nav screen. |

The smartphone integration (6NF) is included in 6NR. You are not charged separately for 6NF. The other required items are items you would probably want anyway, so it is a bargain.

Based on information supplied by BMW, yes it is only a factory option. This means only cars produced after March, 2011.

The option cannot be installed on an existing car. Outside the US, the options are different, but here it is the Convenience package and the $250 app option. Outside the US, the iPhone has been used to turn on the lights, A/C and start the engine. The engine starting seems locked out in the US at the moment, but I've read that others are doing a work around, including getting an iTunes account in the UK. I got it. It is also a sure way to distinguish your build as a 2011.75 (only available from 3/2011).

So I finally got around to watching that, and the iPod out looks fantastic, but the rest looks like a solution in search of a problem. Can anything on the iPod (video, other apps) use the video out, or only the music/video library?

I don't think you should debate this, considering the cost is $250. I just added it to my order of E92 and here in Canada it costs $300. I do think it is well worth it.
