misty going for a dinan badge

Bought a slightly used 2011 M3 E90 with 5000 miles a couple of weeks ago after turning in my leased 2009 M5. I LOVE this car and already took it out to the track (Buttonwillow). My wife named the car misty because she figures having this car is better than having a mistress! So, Misty is going to Dinan in Morgan Hill, California for a week to become even better. She will be getting: free flow exhaust, stage III suspension, high flow intake, monoball control arm steering, rear toe links, and engine software. I made similar modifications to my old 2006 550i and can't wait to see how well this car is going handle. I have posted a pix of car stock with only window tinting. I bought the four door thinking practically but I am sort of liking the looks now. I had a 2003 M3 coupe and never really liked the SMG transmission but loved the handling and the looks.
Glad to be back in the M3!!

Congratulations to you. I am actually more interested to find out why people dump a car like the M3 after one year and so little mileage. How can someone not like this car? I have a 2011 with 5000 miles and have absolutely no desire to sell it in the near future. To me, the car is stil "new". Still even has its new car smell.

Some folks bite off more than they can chew when they make a large purchase like that, others have wives that aren't so understanding, and some decide they rather have the Porsche. It's good that some folks unload their cars so soon so that other enthusiaists can enjoy a great car without taking the intitial depreciation from driving the new car off the lot.

I guess most Dinan mods, exhaust, intake and software will not affect the warranty?

Nice car!

Incorrect, if something breaks and bmw proves it was dinan that caused the problem, dinan picks up the tab up until the bmw warranty wears off...

I had a problem and this is what BMW of NA sent back to me, I will however say that Dinan will fight for you as they are doing for me but if BMW can find an excuse to void the warranty, they will.

Read the following:

Due to the Dinan software on the vehicle’s DME module, all warranty work relating to the power train will need to be approved by BMW of North America, LLC ’s (BMW NA) field representatives to ensure that it is a defect and not failure caused by modification to the vehicle with Dinan. Please note on page 27 of the service and warranty manual states:

warranty does not apply to the following:
….
Modification of the vehicle or installation of any
performance accessories or components
attached to the vehicle which alters the original
engineering and/or operating specifications or
which result in damage to the other original
components, electrical interference, electricalshort, radio static, water leaks and wind noise.

The Dinan software install on the vehicle has caused excessive stress on the vehicle’s engine components, which could potentially void the warranty.

So you see, you could end up with a headache, In my case Dinan is steping up...

Cheers and enjoy the mods! Stage 3 suspension is pure joy...

agreed... when i bought my m it was a year and a half or so ago and it was a CPO 2009 with 3100 miles. the guy who had it prior had some "rule" for only keeping cars for 6-8 months from what i was told. weird! these cars seriously are worse than cigarettes... addiction after 1 drive.

I appreciate all the support. I agree the warranty issues between Dinan and BMW NA are a little sketchy but I still think it's worth the risk. I paid 60000 for the car fully loaded (no competition package though) as a 2011 with 5012 miles on it. The previous owner's Dad came from India and more or less made his 44 year old son trade the car in for a Mercedes S. I heard he told his son: "this M is not a real car, it is a toy. Get rid of it!" Yes, it is a toy and a VERY fun one!

Congratulations!

I'm picking up my car today or tomorrow with the rest of the Dinan mods to qualify for the badge. Soon to have Full exhaust, stage II software, underdrive pulley, monoballs and stage I suspension.

I drove my father from JFK through Brooklyn and New Jersey in the M3. It was loaded down with people and a trunk full of luggage. He hated it. But he drives a Lexus so his opinion doesn't count. When he complained too loudly, I dropped it down a few gears and ran it up to 135. When his screams got loud enough, I mashed the brakes to immediately drop us down to 70. No fuss, no bother.

Hey Joe,

I was thinking of installing Dinan cat-back exhaust. Would love a full exhaust but thought it wouldn't pass PA emissions test. Is there something I don't know about the Dinan full exhaust system?

You understand perfectly. I have to re-install the original center section plus reprogram the engine before my next inspection. PITA, but probably worth it.
