Insurance Differences Between 335i (or previous car), and M3.

I've done a search but haven't really found extensive discussion on this topic. So I pose the following questions to all the North American owners who have upgraded (or plan on such) to the 2008 M3: how do your insurance rates compare with your previous car? I am on the fence between an e92 335i and a e92 M3, and I'm just doing my due diligence researching the additional cost differences between the two (MSRP, taxes, tires, gas, maintenance, insurance) to gauge my true interest in the M3 over the 335i.

I believe the differences between a twin-turbo 335i and a V8 M3 would be minimal. I could be wrong though. Your input will help me confirm (or refute) my suspicions. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've checked and it's about 60% more for me on the M3 vs 335i. I have clean driving record, good credit, etc.

I got my policy and it's only about $400.00 more a year than my E36. I did have to compare different companies to get this but it was worth it. One company quoted me almost triple than my best offer. Insurance companies are made to rip us off and get away with whatever they can, so check first and make sure you are specific about the coverages on the policy.

going from an '05 545i to an '08 e90 M3, i was quoted an increase of $51 total over 6 months. my policy is renewed and repriced every 6 months, but we've got mulit-cars & accident free for over 6 years which helps.

I started a thread on this today in the Canada section. I got quotes today on an M3, 335 and S5. The M3 was over 30% more expensive the 335. The S5 was in the middle.

I have my 06 330xi and 08 M3 on the same policy with the same deductibles and I pay $20.00 more for the M3 vs the 330xi. I was shocked. I am sure if I got the 335 it would be a lot more. Insurance companies(In general) do not like the word Turbo.

I was quoted @ 720.47 for 6 months from Geico and the M3 will be the second vehicle on the coverage...I won't be getting my car until late may so hopefully it'll drop a little more, but I'm still going to shop around b/c I have to renew by April 28th...I haven't gotten a ticket in a couple of years but there is 1 accident under my belt from a couple years back...for two cars I'll be paying 1400+ for 6mths w/ 500 deductible.....is this good?

$1,779 per year but that might go down. I just got the updated paperwork and forgot to tell the insurance company that I will be the primary driver not my wife.

The rate for my M3 Coupe is $460/half, with $500 deductible. Its only a couple bucks more than the rate for the 335 sedan.

IM thru GEICO, and the rate on my car is $475 for 6 months. Previous rate for my 2006 Lexus IS350 is 415, so about $60.
