I agree. The sedan looks awsome, way better than the coupe. The coupe looks like a Honda Accord coupe.

I like the coupe better!!! As for those that say it looks like a 335, they are right, but the M3 somehow draws crowds wherever I park it, its crazy!!!

Wow how dumb are you? THen I guess I would have to say your 335 looks a lot more like the honda then the M3 since you don't have a bulge in your hood or any vents |

OMG, 2 coupes have similar shapes. What other amazing patterns in the universe have you discerned?

the sedan does not look better IMO. the tails just kill the car. i can obviously see the practicality issues with it though. i am very curious whether they are going to redesign or do a face lift on those taillights.

Coupe looks more attractive but the sedan looks more civilized.

oooowww. pick me... pick me...
I think that the sedan looks better then the coupe, so does half the people at two dealerships that got both cars in. when you see the sedan in person, it looks better then the coupe. of course its just an opinion. Of course I usually like all sedans over coupes.

owning a coupe is just in a mans blood, dont get me wrong the coupe looks great and I ponder over the decision. I do think the sedan looks better, but the coupe jsut has the appeal of ..well... being a coupe..
The coupe is seen as more of a sports car, although they are both pretty identical in performace figures.

I've not seen either IRL yet. So, I'll reserve my judgment. I recall that before I saw the E46 M3, the pictures did not do it justice. I thought it was uglier (from the pictures) than the E36. But when I finally saw one, in fact I test drove this one, I thought it looked really special. (Six months later I had my M3, probably the only OG2 M3 on the east coast) I don't think the E46 has lost anything in looks over the years, and neither has the E30 and E36. Heck, the 2002 still looks cool.
One thing I always liked about the BMW's is that their styling was "understated" -- a handsome, not screaming out at you "I'm sexy", flashy type of car. However, the current Bangle'd bodies (with the one exception of the Z4 coupes, esp. the M) are just plain, er, plain ugly. Fortunately, the 3 series has downplayed this some and they don't look quite as bad as say the 7-series. But they don't look much different than a Hyundai or Pontiac either unless you take a close look and see which one is put together better. Having said all that, from the pictures I like the Sedan over the Coupe. Not "way better", but better. But this could change when I see them in person. I do feel however that the Sedan is the configuration more suited to this new M3. It is now a true GT, not really a sports car like the E30 M3. All in all, it is a better car than the previous M3's -- more sophisticated, more options, more engineering, more mature, more performance, yet more practical, .... the list goes on. But it is also bigger, heavier, quieter and more luxurious. This is not aimed at the true sports car fanatic but at someone who wants world class performance, comfort, and well, practically everything. Compromises have to be made. The new one is heavier and more expensive (although when comparing 2008 dollars with 19xx the cost comparison looks more favorable). And part of the weight increase is due to current crash-worthy protections and other regulations. However, it is still a fun car to drive in its own way. So, now given that the car is a GT, appeals to more people and is a true "all-around" vehicle, then to me the Sedan makes more sense than the Coupe. I think those that want something more similar to the E30 lightweight might think about holding your breath for the CSL. If BMWNA is reading this then please seriously consider bringing the CSL into America, if BMW makes it. Or you might think about the Z4 M coupe, esp. those who had and E46 M3 like me. Sorry for the diatribe. Just my thoughts. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and this is mine. I will still respect you in the morning if you like the Coupe better  </soapbox> |

Totally, IMO there is no competition. Although the Sedan is nice, the coupe is great!!! And yes, I owned a 325 a few months back and the tail lights kill it.

If I get one, it will be the coupe. I think the sedan is ugly, but if you need four doors, I could see getting a sedan because of that. If I needed four doors, I would get a 550i with sport package for about the same price as a fully optioned M3.

I actually like the Sedan's taillights over that of the Coupe's. In fact I never cared too much about the E46 taillights compared to the previous 3-series. The new coupe lights look like upside down E46 lights.
