Gym: Do You Clean Machine After Using It?
i was debating whether to post this or not but i couldn't let it go. ive been going to the same gym for 5+ years and today an older man came up to me and said "i hope you don't get offended, but you really need to clean the machine after your using it".
at first i was baffled and had no words and i just replied ok w/e and continued on. do you guys wipe your sweat off the machine after use? i see nobody at my gym doing this but a few germaphobes. i mean it does make sense i guess to be clean and wipe for next person but when nobody else does it why must i be obligated to? it is a gym and sweat is on it everday and you shower after so what is the big deal? ive seen worse when im in the sauna which has a view to the sinks in the bathroom and i see people piss and not wash their hands and go back out and far worse some take a shit and proceed to skip the sink as well

Not unless I sweat like a fucken pig. Which I dont. I wear a shirt and I dont sweat through it generally. When i get up the machine isn't soaked in sweat. But if you sweat like a pig, than yes, wipe it down, because its fucken disgusting.
I stopped going to an LA fitness here because the place was hot as balls, everybody sweat like hell, and nobody wiped anything down. Bunch of white trash fucks. |

When I used to go to crunch and finished using the bench, or anything I did with a bench, I usually just give it a quick swipe with the towel to remove the sweat and stuff. The gym was always clean and everyone did it

Not only is OP posting another one of his question threads but it's also gym related. You'd think that would be taboo after the Chelsea thread but apparently not.

Yeap. Wipe it off man.
Plus it's always nice if the dude before you see's you're going to be using the machine or bench next and wipes it down for you. Just good manners.

i hate douchbags who leave their head sweet dripping and in a pile!
also i dont know how hard it is to re rack the fuckin weights, that pisses me off so much when im looking for a pair and there are a handful of people around but all 3 pairs are missing. FU! since everyone is nasty in the gym i see no reason for myself to wipe my equipment, i do use a small gym towel to put on the head piece, but sometimes it is so nasty i need to clean it! before i would even put my towel on.

+1. Also wipe benches. Just a common curtesy.
i used to go to the gym in my old apartment complex. not one of those tiny one-room gyms, but a rather impressive 24hr Fitness caliber gyms. anyway, this dude used to come there in tight-ass bike shorts and a fishnet "t-shirt" type thingy and run 5 miles on a treadmill. he would sweat so much that everything in a 10 ft. radius of him was drenched in his sweat. once he was done, he would simply walk out of the gym. finally enough people complained and the dude was banned from using the gym for good.

People go to the gym for so long, they forget what they signed up for. Its actually in the contact to clean up after yourself.

Sometimes if it's not soaking wet and I forgot to bring my towel, I just sit there on the bench until the sweat air dries and then get up so the next guy doesn't think I just left it soaking wet.

gym courtesy, you absolutely need to wipe off the equipment after you use it, even if you don't sweat profusely (like me). I am also that dude that will ask you to wipe it down, I'm not your mom, clean up after yourself, you are a grown a$$ man, act like it...
no, I'm no germaphobe, but I do respect the gym equipment and fellow members as should you... most gyms have a towel required rule before entering and/or paper towel dispensers with cleaning solution in a spray bottle located throughout the gym... same goes for reracking your weights...how hard is it to take/put the weights back on the rack. if you are too tired to rerack after the fact, then perhaps you are trying a weight you cannot handle... okay..end rant..

Bacteria, disease, etc. is trasmitted very easily through sweat and it is important to clean the equipment.
Thankfully I go to a gym that is a super gym that is obsessed with bacteria and cleanliness - they have disinfectant bottles and towels at every piece of equipment as well as personel that comes by and does it on the hour every hour and they take swabs and send it off to labs. I always wipe before and after use everything I touch.

I went to a fantastic gym in college that was extremely clean. I swabbed the equipment once. Fucken disgusting. BUT, OTOH, nothing that grew was really harmful unless you wipe it in open cuts or start licking your fingers at the gym. They're probably just looking for MRSA. |
