Thanks for the quote I didn't see that.

Are we all in consensus the M3 is THE Better Car!!!!!!

For those who think 1m is more involving and fun to drive, get a Z4 M Coupe.

The MB driver was probably not happy because there was some punk kid in a stock 335i driving dangerously around him in his $100,000+ car.

At the end of the day, I am glad people outside of this forum recognize that the 1m does not measure up to the m3. It means that I don't stand alone in how I see the 1m. Unfortunately, I don't believe the new m3 will measure up that well against the e9x m3 either.

I agree the 1M doesn't quite measure up but I am optimistic (maybe naively so) that BMW M will figure out how to make the F3x just as special as the current M3. The M3 is a very important vehicle to BMW and they need to get it right and I believe they will. In 5 years, I will be shocked if most of us, despite our comments to the opposite now, will not have "upgraded" to the F3x.

if the new generation specs are the same as the current then i will be dissapointed like i am with the new M5.
is it technologically impossible to improve performance? i dont think so. take a look at the GTR, 90000 grand and it goes 0 to 60 in 2,.9 seconds and around the nurburgring in 7- 24?! wow now thats a super car.

I got to see a couple of 1Ms on my ED trip...they are hideous from every angle. I'm sorry...I don't really like the 1 series coupe and then they just puffed some bits out which makes it look worse.

The N54 can't compare to the excitement of the S65 when it gets above 5k RPM. The S65 is totally different and much better.

I have owned 3 different M3's in the last 12 years and I must say, the M3 fanboism is at epic levels because of this 1m.

Interesting thread. IMHO the 1M gives the current M3 a good run for its money, it's hard to look past it. It doesn't have a high-revving V8 and doesn't look as sleek but it has more usable power for a daily basis and it feels a lot lighter and is more tossable. For me it's a no brainer, I'd get a 1M and save my pennies, not taking anything away from the M3 - it's truly a great car. In Australia the price difference is around 50 grand too. I think the next gen M3 will be a total beast though - that's the car I want. Just my 5 cents

M3 is a better car, and the S65 is addictive - there's no doubt about it. I could have bought either or both but I picked the 1M, because I feel it will be more chuckable at the lower rev range, ie more fun. I won't get to the track every weekend, ie I feel the 1M will be perfect.

I haven't driven the 1M yet, so I won't comment more until it arrives, but I think some of the comments are unnecessary. Most of the 1M owners and to be owners from Aus had M3s, Porsches and other cars. So, no need to show us that you buy the most expensive car you can afford. You make yourself looks stupid.

Both are great cars in their own right and it is personal preference on which car people get. Get over it.

Actually of all the mags we have here, Road and track is the closest to a very good street driver in terms of it's performance numbers. My buds at all three mags say that MT and C&D fudge the numbers a little... Making cars seem faster to help the brand\model sell....
MT and C & D correct their observed numbers to "standard day" meteorological conditions. Sometimes that makes the observed numbers better, sometimes worse.

Road & Track doesn't bother, I presume because their standard test venue in southern California enjoys relatively moderate conditions all year round.

Fudging is not part of the deal, and I'll bet that's your word, rather than your friends' words at all three mags. They each publish their test techniques from time to time, and at a guess, unless they employ folks with IQs way down into double digits, nobody's telling "buds" from outside each respective magazine that they actually lie.

I call BS.

The American magazines use a 1 ft rollout on 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

That rollout decreases the times and can "fudge" the numbers

Tell me about it.
I got the ban-stick on the 1M sub-forum for doing nothing more than state what a traditional //M car entailed. I didn't bag on the 1M in any way. Didn't go after any other poster in any way either; didn't say the M3 was better or that the 135 with a tune is pretty close to a //M for all but those who will track it.
No warning by PM, just you can't access this forum. Mods there must have thin skin.

You should see some of the DCT vs. 6 speed or Gintani vs. AA vs. ESS blower talk here.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
