I am starting to think the overpriced wheel and tire insurance is a bit pointless...

Forged wheels can bend too, but are much stronger than cast. If you didn't even feel what happened, those wheels are crap. But even with crap wheels, you'd have felt a hit like that for sure man. Maybe a valet or wife? Good luck.

They don't sell it out of generosity... They make big $$ on it! It's a roll of the dice. I bought it for my wife's 2007 X5 and saved enough to fund the insurance on her X5, pay my 2008 550 insurance in full and make a bit of headway towards the insurance on my M3. After seeing this wheel, I'm glad I have even if I never use it.

OP sorry to see that happen.

FYI: I've had three tires and one rim replaced by the BMW insurance. I still have 4 more years of coverage so I was a great deal for me. Insurance cost me $1200, one ZCP wheel and 3 tires would have cost me $1400-$1600. Good deal for me.

you got a great deal for 1200! Although it sort of belies logic that we'll actually hope we get enough wheel damage to make up for the cost of the insurance ;-)
I'll negotiate mine down to the 1k-1.2k level when I pick up my car around the 30th or so, otherwise it doesn't make sense...

Anyways, I thought I'd be the first to say...220M FTW!!
They are certainly nice rims, but I think they would have bent just as comfortably in this situation...

Oh, I felt it! And immediately thought: "How much did that just cost me?" I just never saw the offending item in the road.

How long have you had the car? Since it's a ZCP, can't be THAT long...
We did Euro delivery last July, so 9 months. Car has been fantastic! Loved every minute, except for one 2 days ago

But, OP, glad you are ok and it was minor damage. I wonder if ZCP rims are a bit more susceptible to damage...

It's not the wheel, it's that the tire is stretched so much it provides _zero_ protection for the wheel. I fucked up one of my wheels too, on a curb that should have no effect on it.... The next set of tires needs to be at least square on the wheel to deal with these shitty ass roads.
