+1. I always tell them upfront not to wash either of mine.

My SA walks around the car with me (his initiative). He also specifically asked if I wanted it washed. He explained that a lot of their M3 owners don't. They did vacuum out the interior pretty nicely.

+1, they do a damn good job cleaning the interior pretty nicely for some reason but I would NEVER let them wash the car again. They did the day I picked it up cos it was raining and they had to bring it from the basement lot to the area where they give you the car, WORST mistake ever, should've just taken it home all dirty. It needed a 3 step polish the same day but I didn't wanna get it done so soon. Also, when my engine blew, I had a 3rd party detailing company come in to clean the car the next day and once the car was up and running again.

Yes, they do. No outside washes for me either, but that vacuum they use does a great job. Just a rotating brush vacuum I think. Got to get one.

It very well could be that your car truly was not ready, of which he needed a few more hours to complete the job. Nevertheless, I would not have them wash the my car after service. Jerez Black here....no way.

Ding!

I will play both sides.
1. It could be that part of their 'boost our dealer ratings' or boost the BMW ratings, they plan to provide these little services to MOST BMW drivers, would be beneficial. The service part of it is actually a great courtesy, especially if you have a loaner. I know many people who love the free carwash, free cleaning. Actually, it's probably one of the few times their cars get washed and cleaned.

But...If they need a 'detailer'
Then...
2. They scruffed something, for ex. tire marking on the clear coat, need a detailer to polish it out before you see it and flip out. If it was an easy coverup job, anybody could do it, but only a detailer has the compounds to clean things up.

mjposner,

I like to take my car in washed and clean (as of late) whenever I need service or something done. I do this since I don't trust anyone to clean my car, one never knows what rags they use etc.

I make sure to leave instructions on the work order NOT TO WASH the car, also I make sure the milage is noted on the work order before I sign it.

Let us know what actually happened if anything once you get your car back. I would expect the SA to call me if anything happened.

I am reminded of what once a unknown author wrote ...

they're taking it home for a "test drive after service".
they do it all the time just dont tell you about it. usually happens when the "owner" is unable to pickup before 5pm, and has to pick it up the next morning.

One way to prevent this is to make an early appointment and pick up the same day. For a car under warranty one can wait for it still make your appointment early in the day.

When I have work done on our 1987 535is it my be at the dealer for a few days (due to waiting for parts from Toronto etc). Then I always have the milage on the work order. All the mechanics at the dealership love and respect our e28 and I don't mind at all if they do take it home for a test drive.

I wouldn't let them detail it even if they offered. I can do a better job than any of the idiots they have grind dirt onto the paint.

That was your first mistake.

Hopefully you're not getting another phone call saying, "Well what happened was........."

I bet that they had it at the track, and needed to get the racing strip and numbers off it. Plus, brake dust could have been very bad, and no doubt, got in on the floor where the seats were before they were removed. Check out the ash tray. It may have been a smoker also.
vz

op - ps - I am sure all will be okay with your car. Perhaps a service added by your dealer. Lets hope so.

This is why they don't want to release the car.

Geez guys...

Anyway got there at 8:45, car was clean inside and out. They installed new shift knob for free and fixed the dsc malfunction. Got in car and immediately noticed small ! in a triangle in upper corner. Once I got to work and turned car off the one of the four problems was still present (shock absorber with exclamation pint. Check Control says edc malfunction, and edc button does not work).

I call service guy and leave message. At lunch I drive car back and the service guy seems genuinely upset. Gets me same loaner (2011 328) and is very apologetic.

he says he will use a different tech.

Dealer is Braman West Palm. I have been a customer for 11 years and they always seem to try hard to please.
