I don't know, it would be nice if a designer/engineer/race car driver that worked with this M3 could comment. But a few milimeters may not sound like much, but I think it could make a difference. 18/15 might look good, 15mm rear could look a bit overdone. Perhaps even spacing front/rear keeps the engineered design in line??? It might take a bit of experimenting with different spacers to make an accurate judgment.

I'm of couse not trying to win a world championship with this but it's worth looking into what will feel/drive/look right. thanks for your inputs fella's.

FYI, I went from stock to 10mm all around. That's a much bigger difference than the 3mm your comparing and I feel absolutely no difference at all.

I know 10mm is not a big spacer, but I chose that for a couple of reasons. One is I don't think it looks right when the wheels stick out too far. Two, the farther out you push the wheels the more debris from the road they will throw up on the side of your car.

Yeah, with my aftermarket wheels, more debris fly on the side/bottom part of the rear bumper.

FYI, I tried my 15mm spacers in the rear with my stock wheels/suspension and there was a bit of rubbing.

Not sure if a lowered car takes care of that or not.

Here's my setup. H&R sport springs and 12mm spacers all around on an e90 M3. I went with the same spacers front and rear to keep the handling balance the same, and went with 12mm because my measurements told me I wouldn't get any rubbing in the rear with 12mm spacers, but I would get rubbing with 15mm.

So I guess I was wrong. It looks like even with the 12mm rear spacer (as opposed to the 15mm), the rear tire will still rub on the plastic liner near the rear of the rear fender. I thought that with my measurements it would clear, and even when I backed up a driveway at an angle to compress the rear suspension and it looked fine, I've noticed that the rear tire has in fact rubbed on the plastic liner. I can see lines on the tire and on the plastic liner there is even evidence that it rubs. This only happens very rarely when I have a full load, but my intention was to have a spacer setup that never rubbed under any condition so I suppose the largest spacer you can put on the rear with absolutely no rubbing of any kind ever would be the 10mm spacer.

Eibach Pro's and Macht Schnell 18F/15R spacers...no rubbing at all and it looks really aggressive with the factory 19's. Does this set-up increase handling performance? Not likely, but it does feel better when driven at 5/10's-8/10's, and that's what really matters to me .

Does the e92 have more clearance in the rear than the e90? Must be, because my factory 19's rub (very slightly on the plastic liner) with 12mm spacers in the rear.

You have 15mm spacers in the rear and nothing in the front?

I'm not sure, but I have zero rubbing. The e90's look like they ride a bit lower stock, so perhaps they do have less clearance .

Right now, I have 12mm in the rear and 15mm in the front. I think I am going 12mm all around and will try to sand down the plastic liner to make sure it does not rub. I am also having H&R springs installed tomorrow so I will see how it affects the rubbing.

I think everyone is obsessing over this topic. I am very amused!

BMW engineers spent huge hours designing the factory suspension BUT! they also had to make a compromise to accommodate a wide range of drivers and passengers (have you ever seen an 80 year old lady driving an M5? I have!) They had to make the suspension a little softer and more 'comfortable' than most guys on this forum are wanting- This is why reputable aftermarket suspension companies make a spring that is more performance oriented than the OEM parts. These aftermarket springs are NOT made just to lower the car and make it look pretty. They are designed to satisfy the more aggressive driving style of certain individuals.

Hi John!

Actually, I've read and learned that those after market springs are not best for the stock M3 suspension. NOT because they are slightly stiffer, but because the stock suspensions 'rebound' will be off.

And that's probably why some owners say that the car may feel more stable or planted, but there is no definite answer on if the car has faster lap times with springs.......And some even feel that the lap times have 'very slightly' declined a bit.

I really wanted springs and spacers, but the stock suspension is brilliant according to my impression......And I'd hate to mess with it especially since the handling is one of the key shining points of the M3. This is just my 2 cents.
