How do I keep my cat from chewing my cables?

So my cat has relentlessly been chewing my birds nest of cables at my computer desk lately. I keep swatting him away but he doesnt get the hint. Tonight, Im at the computer when I hear this loud low pitched noise from one of my speakers. My cat chewed through the wire. So now I have one speaker working. He keeps going back to chew so apparently theres not enough electricity flowing to give him a shock.

Anyone else experience this? Is there anything I can spray on the wires to keep him from doing this? Hes not a kitten as hes going to be 7 in November. I dont get it.

Go to your local Petco or something. There is a spray called bitter apple. Taste's like complete crap but it works. We used to use that to keep the ferrets from chewin on our crap. Just wash your hands after you spray it cause it really does taste like shit...

Good things! I thought there was something like that but when I called the vet, they had no idea. They told me to go to home depot and get larger tubing to put all the cables through. Go figure.

If the bitter apple does not work, it did not with my rabbit who seemed to like the added flavor, try cayenne pepper.

Mine bit through a power cord. She has never chewed another cable since.

This is another option for stubborn cases.

do you play with him? He's probably trying to get your attention . I have a squirt gun that I keep handy and if the cat does something I don't like I squirt him in the face, and he typically won't do it a second time.

Yeah, hes spoiled to shit. Only drinks Brita water from his fountain.

The squirtgun is no good. I learned that when he was a kitten, I would squirt him and he'd just look at me like "yeah, now what". After that he would jump in the shower if I didnt have the curtain closed all the way. He even sticks his head under his water fountain(its really funny to watch actually).

Regardless, this is all a recent thing. I think Ill take him to the vet and get him checked out. Hes due for his yearly shots soon anyway.
