one of your pictures in the canon side by side comparison isn't correct. I'm not sure which camera you have beside.

So far so good on the article though. If i see anything else, I'll let you know.

Didn't really notice anything else worth noting other then that D800 is one ugly camera.... Some of the switches and such on it remind me of my old Canon AE-1. Tech from another century past.

Looking forward to your further analysis. Shame about how the canon was packed compared to the Nikon. But, I'd rather more money was spend on the camera then the packaging anyhow.

Picked up an SB910 with the cash I received from the Dell photo compensation. Really impressed with it - a lot of money but my flash photography has improved instantly.

I got the same. Amazing flash and impressing usage per battery charge. I had the 600 before and the difference is jaw dropping.

You might want to invest, if you dont already have some, into NiMH batteries. I used normal Duracell batteries before and was getting about 100-120 flashes per set. With the Energizer NiMH kit I had at christmas, I can go up to 200-250 flashes in intensive usage; i'm sure I can get at least 300 with a less "passive" usage.

Canon 5D Mark III vs. Nikon D800: Initial video test

rodi, If I want to do a high ISO test between the Mark II and Mark III, what should the scene be? Would a plain whitish brick wall work? Or would it be better to see some things in the scene?

Canon (even though wind noise filter was off) seemed to suppress wind noise a bit better.

Otherwise, I couldn't really see a difference in quality *i'm ignoring the exposure*

I think you need to find some darker surfaces to shoot because that should be where you find more noise.

Hey guys,

Can you tell me where could I learn a little bit more about tone mapping? I would like to learn how to give a higher dynamic range to some of my pictures without going into multiple exposures HDR.

I managed to find a couple books that talks about it, but not deep enough. They explain the curve but dont go into details as to what you actually need to do to get the wider DR possible.

I managed to get decent results on a couple pictures while playing with the tone curve in lightroom but I have to admit its pretty much a trial and error method and would like to know what i'm doing.

Thanks for the help.

Crazy people are selling their MkIIs now. I saw one used body/grip combo where the seller wanted $2400. Yikes. Another wanted to trade his MkII for a 7D and $650. Um, no. Some 5D classics are out there for $850-$900 as well. Good luck to these folks.
